Georgiev allowed seven goals on 39 shots in the Rangers loss in Carolina on October 7th. Georgiev went down to the AHL last week to get some starts in, going 1-1-0 with a 3.02 GAA and .905 SV%. The 22-year-old draws a really difficult matchup tonight with the Panthers in town—they are tied for 11th in scoring (3.33 GF/PG) through their first six games.
Georgiev got two starts with the Wolf Pack while Henrik Lundqvist started the Rangers’ three games last weeks. Georgiev went 1-1-0 while allowing six goals on 63 shots (.905 SV%) in his tow starts and returns to the NHL, where he might not start a game for a few weeks—their next back-to-back isn’t until Nov.9-Nov.10.
Thompson has not recorded a point while averaging 11:44 TOI/GM in his first seven games as a Sabre. Johan Larsson will draw in and take Thompson’s spot in the bottom-6.
Georgiev has not started since October 7th and the Rangers are off until Saturday, so he’ll go to Hartford to get some work in. The 22-year-old was 14-13-2 with a 2.98 GAA and .909 SV% in 37 games with the Wolf Pack last season.
Lyon is not waiver exempt, so he has been loaned to Lehigh Valley but will need to clear waivers in order to be sent to the AHL. The 25-year-old was 16-8-2 with a 2.75 GAA and .913 SV% in 27 games with the Phantoms a year ago.
Georgiev spent most of last year in Hartford (AHL), where he went 14-13-2 with a 2.98 GAA and .918 SV% in 37 starts. During a short time with the Rangers, the 22-year-old was 4-4-1 with 3.15 GAA and .918 SV% in 10 starts. He will serve as Henrik Lundqvist’s backup this season and make his first start against a Hurricanes team that has four goals in two games.
McLeod was selected in the second-round (No.40) of this summer’s draft and enjoyed a strong training camp. The Oilers have plenty of depth down the middle, so McLeod returns to the Steelheads, where he had 70 points (26G / 44A) in 68 games last year.
Sheary will miss the rest of the preseason but the Sabres expect their new winger to be ready for the first game of the season vs. the Bruins (Oct. 4). Sheary was projected to play in the Sabres’ top-6, but this injury could lead to him playing in the bottom-6 to start the season. Sheary will need to play with Jack Eichel or Casey Mittelstadt if he’s going to have any fantasy value this season.
Dahlin was the first overall pick at this year’s draft and will be on the Sabres’ blueline this year. Dahlin is one of the biggest defensive prospects the NHL has seen in recent years and he immediately improves Buffalo’s back-end. The 18-year-old had seven goals and 13 assists (20 points) in 41 games with Frolunda HC last season and has the ability to be a double-digit goal-scorer with 20-plus assists in his rookie season.
Lyon split the 2018 season between Philadelphia (NHL) and Lehigh Valley (AHL). During his 11 games in the AHL, he went 6-5-0 with a 1.98 GAA and .944 SV% while going 4-2-1 with a 2.75 GAA and .905 SV% in 11 games for the Flyers. Injuries to Brian Elliott and/or Michal Neuvirth are the only way that Lyon will find himself back in the NHL in 2019.
Dahlin is the can’t miss prospect of this year’s draft. He has the size of Victor Hedman, the skating of Erik Karlsson and makes the game look simple like Nicklas Lidstrom. The 18-year-old had seven goals and 13 assists (20 points) in 41 games with Frolunda in Sweden’s top league. He picked up six assists in seven games during the World Juniors as well. He’ll be on the Buffalo blueline in 2019.
Lyon went back to the AHL with Michal Neuvirth returning to the crease on Thursday. Neuvirth was re-injured almost immediately, so Lyon returns to backup Petr Mrazek.
Georgiev allowed one goal on 44 shots in the Rangers win over the Sabres on Saturday. It was a great outing for Georgiev, who is now 3-1-0 with a 2.72 GAA and .933 SV% on home ice this season. The 22-year-old will continue to get work with Henrik Lundqvist still ailing.
Georgiev allowed four goals on 36 shots in the Rangers loss in Philadelphia on Thursday. After a hot start to his NHL career, Georgiev has now allowed at least three goals in his last four starts. Despite the recent struggles, he remains a pretty good option against a bad Sabres team.
