Buffalo Sabres News

The Maple Leafs signed goaltender James Reimer to a two-year deal worth $4.6 million on Friday.

Reimer, 26, had a tough season in his first year of a timeshare with Jonathan Bernier. He finished the season 12-16-1 with a 3.29 GAA and .911 SV% which included a stretch of five straight losses when Bernier was injured--a time the Leafs really needed Reimer to step-up. Toronto does not look like the place for Reimer long-term so this deal gives the Maple Leafs a high-end back-up to start the season and the ability to trade him if the right offer comes along.

The Sabres signed Tyler Ennis to a five-year extension worth $23 million.

Ennis, 24, had 21 goals and 22 assists (43 points) in 80 games with the Sabres last season. His 43 points were good for second on the team, but was somewhat of a down year after a strong season in lockout shortened year. The Sabres have beefed up their lineup this offseason, which should help the likes of Ennis and Cody Hodgson in 2014-15.

The Red Wings have signed center Riley Sheahan to a two-year contract extension worth $950,000 per season.

Sheahan, 22, is coming off a solid rookie season. Recalled from the Grand Rapids midway through the season due to the Red Wings' rash of injuries, Sheahan quickly established himself a dependable two-way player. He provided more offense than was expected, with nine goals and 15 assists, along with a plus-6 rating, in 42 games. Sheahan was one of the club's restricted free agents.

Bishop will undergo surgery on his right wrist on Tuesday.

The exact extent of the injury and recovery will be known following surgery tomorrow. Bishop missed the entire first round with the injury, which was originally believed to be to his elbow. The Lightning were swept, but it likely would have been an entirely different series had Bishop been healthy. He had a breakout campaign this season, look for him to build off of it in 2014-15.

Ben Bishop
Bishop (arm) will not play in Game 1 on Wednesday.

Bishop missed the final three games of the regular season after suffering an arm injury last Tuesday vs. the Maple Leafs. This is a huge blow for the Lightning, and Bishop must be extremely disappointed after he won 37 games with a 2.23 GAA and .924 SV% this season. This leaves Anders Lindback to get the nod vs. Montreal.

Reimer will start for Toronto.

Remier allowed two goals on 33 shots in a loss to the Lightning on Tuesday. Ouch, this guy just can win this season. While this game is meaningless in the standings, the battle of Ontario is never meaningless to the Sens and Leafs. Each team will be looking for the W tonight.

James Reimer
Bishop (elbow) likely to miss the start of the playoffs.

As far as the Lightning are concerned, Bishop has no structural damage to his elbow. That is "encouraging" news said head coach Jon Cooper and he did not rule out Bishop playing "at some point" in the first round of the playoffs. Still, it doesn't seem likely Bishop will be there at the start, and there is no timetable other than he will be re-evaluated in five or six days.

Bishop left Tuesday's game with an apparent wrist injury and did not return.

Bishop left the game late in the first period while attempting to snag a loose puck, Bishop appeared to get his legs tangled up, and wound up crashing to the ice, landing on his left wrist. With the playoffs right around the corner, the Lightning are hoping this injury is nothing more than a day-to-day thing.

Reimer starts for the Maple Leafs.

Reimer was tagged with four goals on 41 shots in a 4-2 loss to the Jets on Saturday. Reimer still has not recorded a win in a game he started since January 21st. The Leafs have completely imploded and need to run the table with help to even have a sniff at the playoffs. Reimer will take on a Lightning team who lit him up for five goals on 30 shots two and half weeks ago.

James Reimer
Bishop starts for the Lightning.

Bishop gave up five goals on 28 shots in a loss to the Stars on Saturday. All of a sudden Bishop is having a hard time keeping the puck out of his net. He has won eight of his last 14 starts, despite posting a 2.74 GAA and .901 SV%. He is still collecting the W's, but needs to be more steady if the Lightning are going to do any damage in the playoffs.

Reimer starts for the Leafs.

Reimer allowed one goal on 11 shots after replacing Jonathan Bernier on Thursday. The Leafs went on to win the game in OT, giving Reimer the W. The last time Bernier was injured, Reimer struggled mightily. With the Leafs season on the brink, he will need to step-up to keep them alive. He will likely start all of Toronto's remaining games.

Bishop starts for the Lightning.

Bishop allowed three goals on 30 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Red Wings on Sunday. Bishop turned-in a 8-3-3 record with a 2.73 GAA and .907 SV% in March. He is a must-start regardless of his matchup, but here is a little extra incentive to start him tonight vs. Montreal. Bishop is 2-0-1 with a 0.92 GAA and .962 SV% vs. the Canadiens this season.

Bishop leads the Lightning onto the ice for warmups.

Bishop allowed two goals on 28 shots in a 4-3 win over the Sabres last night. He will get the start on back-to-back nights as the Lightning gear up to take on the Wings in Detroit. He has won six of his last seven with a 2.37 GAA and .918 SV%. He is a 4-0-0 with a 1.21 GAA and .957 SV% vs. Detroit this season.

Bishop expected to start vs. the Red Wings.

Bishop allowed two goals on 28 shots in a 4-3 win over the Sabres last night. It looks like he will get the start on back-to-back nights as the Lightning gear up to take on the Wings in Detroit. He has won six of his last seven with a 2.37 GAA and .918 SV%. He is a 4-0-0 with a 1.21 GAA and .957 SV% vs. Detroit this season.

Ben Bishop
Bishop is the Lighting's confirmed starter.

Bishop stopped 25 of 27 shots in a 3-2, 13-round marathon shootout win over the Islanders. What more can you say about him at this point in the season? He has 35 wins, a 2.17 GAA, .926 SV% and five shutouts. Not to mention he takes on the Sabres tonight… Must-start to say the least.
