Devin Cooley only started once in Calgary’s first 11 games, but he has earned the trust of the coaching staff during a stretch of inconsistent play for Dustin Wolf, and returns to the crease for the fourth time in six games on Sunday against the Carolina Hurricanes. The 28-year-old Cooley was excellent in his most recent game, saving 37 of 40 shots (.925 SV%) in a 5-3 win over the Florida Panthers. Cooley has a 2.01 GAA and .930 SV% in nine appearances this season (3-2-1).

Wolf has been outdone by his counterpart, allowing Cooley to see increased action in recent weeks, a trend that will continue on Friday against the Florida Panthers. The 28-year-old Cooley has a dazzling 1.86 GAA and .930 SV% in eight appearances this season (2-2-1). He has allowed more than two goals in a game only once this season.

After a horrendous start to the season, the Flames have played better lately, riding a season-best three-game winning streak, due largely to the strong play of backup netminder Devin Cooley. That said, the Flames hope for more consistency out of the 2024-25 runner-up for the Calder Trophy, as Wolf returns to the crease on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Wolf was excellent in his most recent game, saving 29 of 31 shots (.935 SV%) in a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks, but is sporting a subpar 3.02 GAA and .895 SV% through 19 games this season (6-11-2). The Flames enter their matchup against the Lightning on Wednesday as +163 road underdogs.

With a myriad of injuries to the Flames' forward core, Morton earned himself a call-up last week and drew into the lineup for three games. However, the undrafted 26-year-old will return to the Calgary Wranglers (AHL), where he has 12 points (4G / 8A) in 16 games this season.

Honzek made his NHL debut last season, going without a point in five games, but was starting to show promise as an NHL regular this season. The 21-year-old forward scored four points (2G / 2A) in 18 games this season. He was a shoe-in to play for Slovakia at the upcoming Winter Olympics in February, but will likely still be sidelined by then.

Bean will take a seat on Wednesday as the Flames opt to get some fresh legs into the lineup for the tail-end of their back-to-back. Joel Hanley will dress in his place.

Hanley will make his first appearance since November 11th, subbing in for Jake Bean. Hanley has zero goals and three assists in 18 games this season.

Earlier in the season, the Flames were playing Dustin Wolf on both ends of back-to-backs, but have seemingly been more comfortable lately with Cooley, who will tend the twine on Wednesday against the Buffalo Sabres. The 28-year-old Cooley has yet to record a win this season, but has been impressive in limited action, posting a 1.75 GAA and .935 SV% in five appearances (0-2-1). The Flames enter Wednesday's contest as +137 road underdogs against a Sabres team coming off a 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

Calgary claimed Beecher off of waivers from the Boston Bruins earlier this week, and he will draw into their lineup on Wednesday against the Buffalo Sabres. The 24-year-old Beecher has 22 points (11G / 11A) in 136 career NHL games.

The Flames have had a brutal start to the 2025-25 season, last in the NHL with 13 points through 20 games (5-12-3), but have started to receive more consistent netminding from Dustin Wolf. The 24-year-old Wolf has a solid 2.00 GAA and .925 SV% in his last six games (3-2-1). He has a 3.01 GAA and .896 SV% in 17 games this season (5-10-2). The Flames enter Tuesday's contest as -116 road underdogs against a Blackhawks team that is 4-2-2 at home.
