Martinez (finger) could miss more than one week.

Martinez skated for the second straight day on Thursday, but it sounds like he will be out longer than his original timetable of one week. He underwent a procedure that included some work done on his nailbed and head coach Darryl Sutter said “They nearly cut his finger off. I don’t think I could play in a week.” Sutter is worried the finger could become infected and doesn’t want Martinez to miss even more time. He remains day-to-day, but it sounds like he’ll be out longer than original expected.

Khudobin will start in goal for the Hurricanes.

Khudobin allowed five goals on 27 shots in a loss to the Oilers on October 24th. Cam Ward has been red-hot as of late and started the last five games, but head coach Bill Peters wanted to get Khudobin a start. He gets the call tonight in Washington, still searching for his first win of the season—he has a 3.24 GAA and .891 SV% so far.

Foligno (neck) hopes to play Friday.

Foligno was on the ice for the Blue Jackets practice this morning and took line rushes, which is a good sign that he could be available on Friday. This would be rather impressive considering he was stretchered off of the ice less than a week ago. His return would definitely help an extremely depleted Blue Jackets lineup.

Nick Foligno
Foligno (head/neck) is day-to-day, avoided serious injury.

Foligno was knocked out in a collision with the linesman on Sunday night and had to be stretchered off of the ice. He said that he had lost feeling in the one side of his body but it came back quickly. He underwent an MRI and X-rays on Monday and everything came back negative. He was diagnosed with a "stinger" and is day-to-day.

Khudobin will start for the Hurricanes on Friday.

Khudobin allowed three goals on 26 shots in a loss to the Jets on Tuesday. Cam Ward started in the Hurricanes shutout loss to the Flames last night, so Khudobin gets the nod tonight in Edmonton. He has a 2.64 GAA and .912 SV% in three starts, but Carolina is still searching for their first win of the season.

Khudobin gets the nod in goal for the Hurricanes.

Khudobin stopped 33 of 34 shots in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Rangers last Thursday. He has allowed a total of five goals on 65 shots (.923 SV%) in his first two starts. He draws a great matchup tonight vs. the Jets and the Hurricanes should get a boost with Jeff Skinner returning to the lineup.

The Red Wings have signed Tyler Bertuzzi to a three-year entry level contract.

Bertuzzi, 19, is the nephew of former Red Wing Todd Bertuzzi and was the Wings' second round pick (58th overall) in 2013. He is in his fourth season with the Guelph Storm of the OHL and has started the season with one goal and four assists (five points) in six games. He had 34 points (9G / 25A) in 29 games last year.

Khudobin is the Hurricanes confirmed starter.

Khudobin allowed four goals on 31 shots in a 4-3 loss to the Islanders last Saturday. Cam Ward has lost each of his two starts, so the Hurricanes will turn to Khudobin to try and get them in the win column tonight. The Canes are ravaged by injuries, making Ward and Khudobin risky investments right now.

Shaw will be reunited with Brandon Saad and Patrick Kane in the season opener.

The trio of Shaw, Saad and Kane played together in the Western Conference Final, but were broken up to start training camp when Brad Richards arrived. However, Shaw was back between the two skilled wingers in the final preseason game and will be there for the season opener on Thursday in Dallas.
