The trainers assured Kulikov and Dineen that they would be able to keep the wound clean to guard against infection. “He’s a tough kid,” Dineen said. “He’s shown us numerous times that his will to play is large.”

Despite the nasty gash, the young defender was able to draw into the lineup. Last night he landed a hit, took a shot on goal and finished with a minus-1 rating in the team's 2-1 loss to the Kings. Expect him to stay in the lineup moving forward.

"I hope so. I think if it was his choice he would have played last night, but I think we’re also very optimistic he’ll be back.”

After missing Wednesday's game with a late scratch, Kulikov sounded like he would definitely only miss one game. However, that sounds somewhat in question now. Stay tuned for a further update on his status.

The Canes today reassigned forwards Zach Boychuk and Zac Dalpe to the Checkers.

Dalpe did not really get a shot at a scoring line and will return to Charlotte for extra seasoning. He loses all of his immediate fantasy hockey value but remains a name to know in the future.
