The Sabres' Joel Armia, one of the former first-round picks competing for a roster spot, has a broken hand and is out indefinitely.

The right winger took a slash during Wednesday's 3-0 victory over Columbus and was unable to finish the game. X-rays revealed the break, coach Ron Rolston said today. It hasn't been determined whether Armia will need surgery or if the injury will heal on its own.

Minnesota Wild has recalled goaltender Darcy Kuemper from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Kuemper has been recalled because goaltender Niklas Backstrom left warmups in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with a lower-body injury. Kuemper went 1-2-0 with a 2.08 goals-against-average (GAA) and a .916 save percentage (SV%) in six games (three starts) with Minnesota this season.

MZA has spent some time on the Rangers' top line in the past so he could be the spark the Rangers need up front to get moving again. He does not need to go through waivers because he is already under RFA-status with New York as per Bob McKenzie.

Vancouver Canucks defenceman Alexander Edler has been suspended two games for charging into Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith.

The play happened during Thursday's 2-1 Vancouver victory over the Coyotes.Edler was assessed a five-minute major after running into Smith behind the net late in the second period. Smith was injured on the play and finished the period but wasn't back in net for the third. He was replaced by Jason Labarbera. Edler will miss games on Saturday at Los Angeles and Sunday at Colorado. He is eligible to return on Tuesday when the Canucks host the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Ducks will be even deeper and stronger Friday, when former league MVP Corey Perry returns from his four-game suspension for elbowing Minnesota's Jason Zucker in the head on March 12.

It will be Perry's first game since signing an eight-year, $69 million extension. Perry has nine goals and 15 assists in 25 games this season.

Perry will remain in Anaheim for the next eight years along with Ryan Getzlaf. The two have inked eight year deals this season for very similar money. Perry gets $69 million over eight years, while Getzlaf gets $66 million. Perry has 214 goals and 239 assists for a total of 453 points in 555 career NHL games, all of which have been with the Ducks.

With Niklas Backstrom playing last night and Josh Harding not feeling great the last couple of days it is expected that Kuemper will make his NHL debut tonight vs. the Canucks. Kuemper is 10-6-0 with a 1.79 GAA and .938 SV% in the AHL this season, but the Canucks are not an easy team to make your NHL debut against.
