Varlamov was a full participant in Monday’s practice but won’t be available for Tuesday’s game. Varlamov will travel on their three-game road-trip and could play at some point over that stretch, but he will need to participate in at least one or two more practices before that becomes a reality.
After allowing three goals on 20 shots in the first two periods, Ken Appleby replace Schneider for the third period of Tuesday’s loss to the Bruins. The Devils are already without Keith Kinkaid (groin) so if Schneider is unavailable for Thursday’s game then look for Appleby to start.
Schneider allowed three goals on 30 shots in the Devils loss to the Red Wings last night. Schneider has now lost his last six starts while allowing at least three goals in every game. With Keith Kinkaid (groin) on IR, Schneider will go again tonight—he allowed two goals on 29 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss in his first start vs. the Bruins.
Schneider allowed five goals on 25 shots in the Devils loss to the Flyers on January 13th. Schneider missed the last three games with an illness but is expected to play tonight after participating in Sunday’s practice. In Schneider’s last five starts, he has gone 0-3-2 while allowing 21 goals on 159 shots (.868 SV%).
Pageau will miss his third straight game with an upper-body injury and will miss the Senators’ next two games before the break. With Pageau out, Filip Chlapik will remain in the Senators lineup on Monday.

Horvat has been out since December 5th but traveled with the team on their current road-trip and it looks like he may return to the lineup in Winnipeg on Sunday. Horvat had a really nice season going prior to getting hurt, collecting 20 points (10G / 10A) in his first 28 games—a 59-point pace. Horvat was featured on a line with Brock Boeser before the injury, but he was practicing with the Sedin Twins in Friday’s practice.
Cizikas has missed the last three games and with a three-game road trip upcoming, the Islanders move him to IR to add an extra body for the road trip.
DeAngelo has picked up 13 points (2G / 11A) in 29 games with Hartford this season and returns to the Rangers where he had one assist in eight games earlier this year. DeAngelo’s call-up suggests he replace with Steven Kampfer or Brendan Smith in Saturday’s lineup while Marc Staal works back from a hip flexor injury.
Pageau was injured in the Senators final game before their bye week and won’t play tonight vs. the Blues. Pageau took to the ice for Wednesday’s practice but wasn’t able to make it through the session. With Pageau as day-to-day, Filip Chlapik will be recalled from Belleville (AHL) to take his spot in the lineup.
Soshnikov has not played since November 24th and Mike Babcock anticipates that he will go to the AHL for a conditioning stint before he returns to the Maple Leafs lineup. This is probably the right call considering the 24-year-old has only appeared in three NHL games this season.
Schneider surrendered five goals on 25 shots in the Devils loss to the Flyers on Saturday. Nothing changed for Schneider after their bye week as he’s now lost five in a row while allowing at least four goals in every start—he has allowed a combined 21 goals on 159 shots (.868 SV%). One of those losses came against the Islanders, who he’ll face again tonight—he stopped 34 of 38 shots in a 5-4 shootout loss in Brooklyn on January 7th.
Cizikas left Saturday’s game in New York with an upper-body injury after playing just 7:17 TOI. The ailment will keep him out for at least Monday’s game, so Tanner Fritz will draw back into the Islanders lineup.
Schneider allowed four goals on 38 shots in the Devils loss in Brooklyn last Sunday. Leading up to the Devils’ bye week, Schneider lost four straight starts while allowing four goals in every game and posting an .881 SV%. Hopefully the rest did Schneider some good and tonight he returns to the Prudential Center crease, where he has gone 11-4-3 with a 2.51 GAA and .919 SV%.
