San Jose Sharks News

Askarov was the first goalie off the ice at San Jose's morning skate.

Askarov has only played once in the last 10 days, but will likely return to the crease on Tuesday against the Calgary Flames. The 23-year-old Askarov has struggled with a 4.05 GAA and .846 SV% in his last three games (1-2-0). The Sharks are hoping Askarov's prolonged break can help him return to the form he had in November when he boasted an excellent 1.88 GAA and .944 SV% in 10 games (8-2-0). The Sharks enter Tuesday's contest as +118 home underdogs against a Flames team that has won four of their last five (4-1-0).

Chernyshov is expected to make his NHL debut vs. Calgary on Tuesday.

Chernyshov was drafted 33rd overall by the Sharks in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. The 20-year-old forward has never played an NHL game, but has been solid in the AHL this season, scoring 23 points (11G / 22A) in 25 games with the San Jose Barracuda.

Smith (lundisclosed) has been placed on IR.

Smith suffered an undisclosed injury in Saturday's rollercoaster 6-5 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, and will be sidelined for at least a week after being placed on Injured Reserve. The 20-year-old second-year player has 29 points (12G / 17A) in 33 games this season.

Brossoit has been recalled from Rockford (AHL) after finishing his conditioning stint.

Brossoit underwent hip surgery in the offseason and is progressing toward returning to NHL action, following a conditioning stint in the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs, where he posted a 3.39 GAA and .900 S% in three games (2-1-0). The 32-year-old Brossoit has battled injuries in recent years, not playing since the 2023-24 season, but has been an effective netminder when healthy, posting a 2.64 GAA and .911 SV% in 140 career appearances (64-46-13).

Dellandrea (lower-body) will be a game-time decision in Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Dellandrea only played 12:50 time-on-ice in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs and is questionable for Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins due to a lower-body injury. The 25-year-old forward has nine points (2G / 7A) in 32 games this season.

Nedeljkovic will start in Toronto on Thursday.

Yaroslav Askarov has been battling an illness and, though he appears to be back to full health, will serve as the backup to Nedeljkovic on Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 29-year-old Nedeljkovic has had an up-and-down season with San Jose, posting a 3.02 GAA and .899 SV% in 14 games (4-6-2). That said, he has played well lately, allowing three or fewer goals in nine of his last 10 games (3-6-1) while posting a .911 SV%. The Sharks enter Thursday's contest as +171 road underdogs against a surging Maple Leafs team with points in five straight games (4-0-1).
