This is a bad break for the Sharks, but it was revealed that Couture had been playing with the injury for a while now. It didn't appear to hurt his play too much as he was riding a five-game point streak (4G / 1A) after Monday. He was not selected to Team Canada.

After being stitched up, he returned to play 17:39 (averages 18:40) recording an assist in the Sharks shootout win. Toffoli was close to making the Kings out of pre-season, but was sent to Manchester (AHL). He has seven goals and five assists (12 points) in 10 games. He could see top-6 minutes with Jeff Carter on injured reserve.

Toffoli is a great offensive talent who many believed was going to make the Kings roster. He will start the season in the AHL but will likely be the first player called up when the Kings need someone.

According to the article, the injury dates all the way back to 2010 but did not use it as a scapegoat for his poor play down the stretch. Couture expects to be ready by training camp.
