NHL Hockey Player News

Smith is expected to start Wednesday vs. the Flames.

Smith allowed three goals on 30 shots in the Oilers win over the Coyotes on January 18th. Smith extended his winning streak to five games, posting a 2.41 GAA and .930 SV% in the process. The Flames have won the first two instalments of the Battle of Alberta but they played last night and have scored just 2.00 goals per game while going 1-2-1 in their last four.

Mike Smith
Andersen will start Wednesday in Dallas.

Andersen allowed two goals on 36 shots in the Maple Leafs win in Nashville on Monday. It was a fantastic outing for Andersen, who had been struggling in the month of January. The win moved him to 13-4-0 with a 2.49 GAA, .923 SV% and one shutout on the road this year. He gets set to face a Stars team that has won four of their last five home games while scoring 3.00 goals per game.

Frederik Andersen
Ullmark will miss 3-to-4 weeks with a lower-body injury.

Ullmark suffered a non-contact lower-body injury in Tuesday's loss to the Senators. It looked like it could be a long-term injury but Ullmark catches a break with a 3-to-4 week timetable. Jonas Johansson has been called up from Rochester (AHL) to take his spot on the roster.

Linus Ullmark
Gallagher (head) is set to return to the lineup on Thursday.

Gallagher missed four games before returning from a concussion on January 9th but suffered a setback and missed the next six games. Gallagher was back on the top line in the last two practices and is set to play Thursday in Buffalo. He has scored 15 goals with 17 assists (32 points) in 41 games this season.

Brendan Gallagher
Drouin (wrist) practiced again on Wednesday but is doubtful to play Thursday.

Drouin has been out since mid-November after undergoing wrist surgery on November 18th. Drouin practiced for the second straight day on Wednesday but will need a few more skates before returning to the lineup. Monitor his status heading into their back-to-back on Saturday/Sunday.

Jonathan Drouin
The Oilers recalled Matt Benning from his long-term injured reserve conditioning loan with Bakersfield (AHL).

Benning has not suited up for the Oilers since December 1st and picked up one assist in three games with Bakersfield during his conditioning stint. Benning's return to the team doesn't necessarily mean that he'll play on Wednesday, but he comes back up with five assists in 24 games this season.

Matt Benning
Saros will start Wednesday in Washington.

Saros allowed four goals on 27 shots in the Predators' loss to the Ducks on January 16th. Saros has stumbled recently, going 1-1-2 with a 3.63 GAA and .882 SV% in his last six appearances (five starts). He'll face a Capitals team that has lost four of their last five home games while scoring just 2.00 goals per game.

Juuse Saros
Kassian will return to the Oilers lineup on Wednesday after serving his two-game suspension.

Kassian was suspended for two games for his altercation with Matthew Tkachuk but is set to return tonight. Coincidentally enough, Kassian returns just in time for a home-and-home with Tkachuk and the Calgary Flames. It could be an interesting night for Kassian, who has been held goalless in his last nine games.

Zack Kassian
Bishop will start Wednesday vs. the Maple Leafs.

Bishop stopped 23 of 25 shots in the Stars overtime win over the Lightning on Monday. Bishop playing well was a welcomed sight for the Stars because he struggled in his final two games before their bye week. He is terrific in Dallas, going 12-6-2 with a 1.92 GAA, .937 SV% and one shutout on home ice. Even with the high-scoring Maple Leafs in town, Bishop remains a startable option.

Ben Bishop
Binnington will start Tuesday in Calgary.

Binnington was yanked after surrendering four goals on 11 shots in the Blues loss in Colorado on January 18th. Binnington struggled in the week leading up to the All-Star break, giving up a combined eight goals on just 36 shots (.778 SV%). However, he's been sensational against the Flames this season, winning both starts while stopping 67 of the 69 shots (.971 SV%) that he's faced.
