NHL Hockey Player News

Vasilevskiy will start Tuesday vs. the Canucks.

Vasilevskiy allowed one goal on 29 shots in the Lightning's 3-1 win in Carolina on Sunday. Vasilevskiy has won five consecutive games while posting a 2.20 GAA and .935 SV%. The entire team is playing great hockey right now, making Vasilevskiy a great option vs. the Canucks. They've won seven in a row but have lost seven of their last 11 road games.

Andrei Vasilevskiy
Bernier is expected to start Tuesday vs. the Canadiens.

Bernier allowed three goals on 26 shots in the Red Wings 4-1 loss in Dallas last Friday. Jimmy Howard started Sunday but they'll come back to Bernier on Howard bobblehead night when they host the Canadiens. Montreal played last night and Bernier is 2-0-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .962 SV% in two starts against them this season, so he could be an option tonight if you're desperate.

Jonathan Bernier
Samsonov is expected to start Tuesday vs. the Senators.

Samsonov allowed three goals on 41 shots in the Capitals 4-3 win in Carolina last Friday. It was another terrific outing for Samsonov, who has gone 6-0-0 with a 1.95 GAA and .927 SV% in his last seven outings (six starts). He's been solid on home-ice, going 3-2-1 with a 2.54 GAA and .918 SV% and is a must-start vs. a Senators team that has lost nine of their last 10 road games while scoring 2.10 goals per game.

Ilya Samsonov
Blackwood will start Tuesday vs. the Islanders.

Blackwood gave up four goals on 33 shots inn the Devils loss to the Avalanche on Saturday. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Blackwood, who will make his seventh consecutive start on Tuesday. He is 4-1-1 with a 2.63 GAA and .914 SV% in his previous six outings, which includes a 29-save performance in a 2-1 win over the Islanders last Thursday.

Mackenzie Blackwood
The Wild have recalled Kaapo Kahkonen from Iowa (AHL) under emergency conditions.

There is no word if Devan Dubnyk or Alex Stalock are dealing with injuries but it could be related to the personal reasons that forced Dubnyk to leave the team earlier in the year. The 23-year-old Kahkonen has gone 13-3-1 with a 2.56 GAA and .906 SV% in 17 AHL games this season.

Kaapo Kahkonen
Quick led the Kings onto the ice for warmups.

Quick allowed three goals on 35 shots in the Kings win over the Flyers on New Year’s Eve. Jack Campbell started Saturday, so Quick is well-rested coming into tonight’s game vs. Columbus. Quick is 8-5-1 with a 2.51 GAA and .912 SV% on home-ice and the Blue Jackets come in at 2-1-2 while scoring just 2.20 goals per game in their last five.

Jonathan Quick
Merzlikins led the Blue Jackets onto the ice for warmups.

Merzlikins allowed three goals on 28 shots in the Blue Jackets loss to the Sharks on Saturday. Since taking over the No.1 job, Merzlikinsn has gone 2-1-0 while stopping 86 of the 91 shots (.945 SV%) that he has faced. So far so good and tonight he faces a Kings team that has gone 2-4-1 with 2.29 goals per game in their last seven. B

Elvis Merzlikins
Crosby will travel on the Penguins three-game road trip.

Crosby has been out since November 9th after undergoing surgery for a nagging sports hernia but it looks like he'll be back in the lineup at some point this week. The Penguins are in Vegas on Tuesday, so monitor Crosby's status if they elect to hold a morning skate.

Sidney Crosby
Hellebuyck will start Monday in Montreal.

Hellebuyck surrendered three goals on 44 shots in the Jets loss in Minnesota on Saturday. Hellebuyck has started every game since the Christmas break but has struggled mightily, going 1-2-2 with a 4.25 GAA and .880 SV% in five games. On the plus side, he'll face a Montreal team that has lost five straight (0-4-1) while scoring 2.60 goals per game.

Connor Hellebuyck
Braun (groin) is expected to miss the rest of January.

Braun left Saturday's game in Arizona in the third period and head coach Alain Vigneault said he suffered a groin tweak and will be out through the All-Star break. With Braun not available for Monday's practice, Travis Sanheim and Philippe Myers were together and Robert Hagg and Shayne Gostisbehere were on the third pair.

Justin Braun
Lewis (upper-body) will return to the Kings lineup on Monday.

Lewis has missed the last five games with an upper-body injury but will play Monday vs. the Blue Jackets. Lewis will likely replace Matt Luff on the Kings’ fourth line and comes into play with just six points (1G / 5A) in 30 games this season.

Trevor Lewis
Forbort (back) will make his season debut on Monday.

Forbort was recently recalled from his conditioning stint with Ontario (AHL), where he had one goal in five games. Forbort, who played over 85 percent of his 5v5 ice-time with Drew Doughty last season could be eased back into the lineup on the third-pair tonight but will almost certainly play with Doughty at some point in the near future.

Derek Forbort
Brown (illness) will return to the Kings lineup on Monday.

Brown has missed the last four games with pneumonia but will play tonight vs. the Blue Jackets. Tyler Toffoli has played well since Brown got sick, so he’ll stay on the top line and Brown will skate with Jeff Carter. He has eight goals and 11 assists (19 points) in 39 games this season.

Dustin Brown
Elliott will start Tuesday in Carolina.

Elliott allowed two goals on nine shots after replacing Carter Hart in the Flyers 6-2 loss in Arizona on Saturday. Neither goalie had any success against the Coyotes but they'll go back to the veteran tonight in Carolina. Elliott is 7-4-0 with a 3.19 GAA and .898 SV% on the road and gave up three goals on 36 shots in a 5-3 win in his first start in Carolina (Nov.21).

Brian Elliott
Quick is expected to start Monday vs. the Blue Jackets.

Klingberg (lower-body) will travel on the Stars' California road-trip and should skate on Tuesday.

Klingberg missed Friday's game vs. the Red Wings but will travel out west with the Stars, which suggests that he could be back in the lineup this week. Monitor his status following Tuesday's practice and during the morning skate ahead of Wednesday's game.
