Greiss stopped 31 of 32 shots in the Islanders win over the Blues on December 4th. Greiss currently sits at seventh in the NHL with a .928 SV% and 11th in GAA (2.18). He makes for a strong spot-start option whenever he gets the nod, especially on a Sunday vs. the Devils.
Varlamov was outstanding last night, stopping 34 of 36 shots in Colorado’s win over the Predators. Don’t look now but Varlamov has won three of four while posting a 1.48 GAA and .952 SV%. Despite a heavy workload last night, head coach Patrick Roy said that Varlamov will “probably” play again tonight. If he does, he will be in tough with the Blues in town.
Henrique will miss his second straight game with a lower-body injury that he suffered on Tuesday in Toronto. The injury is not considered to be serious, so he remains day-to-day and has a chance to return to the lineup next week.
Stempniak missed Saturday's practice with an illness and his status for today's game in uncertain. The Devils and Islanders faceoff at 5 p.m ET so they won't have a morning skate, so we likely won't get an update on Stempniak's status until a few hours before the game or in warmups.
Graovac has been out for two months and will need to get his conditioning back up with Iowa before he steps on the ice for the Wild again.
Crawford stopped all 25 shots that he faced in the Blackhawks shutout win over the Jets on Friday. Crawford has now won three straight games while posting a 0.67 GAA and .978 SV%. Schneider turned aside 27 of 29 shots in the Devils OT win over the Red Wings on Friday. He is 2-1-2 with a 2.31 GAA and .921 SV% to start the month of December and today he will take on the Islanders for the third time this season. In their first two meetings Schneider went 1-1-0 with a 1.94 GAA and .933 SV%. He is a pretty safe start whenever he gets the nod, so roll him with confidence today.
Allen stopped all 26 shots that he faced in the Blues shutout win over the Stars last night. It was a great outing from the 25-year-old, who now leads the NHL with four shutouts this season. Tonight Allen will start on back-to-back nights for the first time this season—he has a superb matchup vs. Colorado and comes in at 8-4-1 with a 1.95 GAA and .926 SV% on home ice.
Hiller allowed three goals on 30 shots in the Flames win over the Sabres. Hiller was not scheduled to start, but ended up getting the call because Karri Ramo was dealing with an illness. Hiller has struggled this season, but he makes for a decent start against a Rangers team who played yesterday and have really struggled recently.
