NHL Hockey Player News

Lehtonen was the first goalie off of the ice for the Stars.

Lehtonen allowed two goals on 28 shots in the Stars win over the Oilers in his season debut. Lehtonen stabilized the net after Antti Niemi blew-up for six goals against in his last outing. Lehtonen and Niemi will likely split starts like this all season, but it is difficult to expect big things out of Lehtonen tonight when he goes to Tampa Bay to take on the Lightning.

Kari Lehtonen
Prince will make his season debut on Thursday vs. Pittsburgh.

Prince, 22, was a second round pick in 2011, and had one assist in two games with the Senators last season. Prince spent the majority of the season with Binghamton (AHL) where he had 28 goals and 37 assists (65 points) in 72 games.

Shane Prince
Bennett (undisclosed) will not be in the lineup on Thursday.

The oft-injured Bennett is out again. Bennett has been one of the Penguins’ most effective players to start the season, but his durability issues will keep him out of the lineup tonight. With Bennett out, look for Bobby Farnham to make his season debut.

Beau Bennett
Anderson remains in goal for the Senators.

Anderson stopped 38 of 41 shots in the Senators win over the Blue Jackets last night. Andrew Hammond was expected to get on of these two games, but Anderson’s strong performance will give him the start on back-to-back nights. He comes into tonight with a 3-0-0 record, 2.60 GAA and .927 SV%.

Craig Anderson
Halak (upper-body) took part in the Islanders’ morning skate; remains day-to-day.

It looks like Halak is nearing a return to the Islanders’ crease. He re-join practice on Wednesday and took part in this morning’s gameday skate, both are good signs he’ll be back soon. Thomas Greiss will start tonight, but monitor Halak’s status leading up to Saturday’s game vs. San Jose.

Jaroslav Halak
Elliott will be back in goal on Thursday vs. the Oilers.

Elliott made 15 saves on 18 shots in the Blues win over the Flames on Tuesday. It wasn’t a great start for Elliott, but it still resulted in the road win. Elliott will break the Blues’ goalie rotation and start two in a row, after winning his first two starts with a 2.00 GAA and .905 SV%

Brian Elliott
Bishop will be in goal on Thursday vs. Dallas.

Bishop allowed two goals on 23 shots in the Lightning’s 3-1 loss in Detroit on Tuesday. The loss snapped Bishop’s three-game winning streak to start 2015-16. Bishop has played well through four games, posting a 2.00 GAA and .922 SV%. He will make his fifth consecutive start tonight vs. a Stars team who has averaged 3.33 goals per game so far.

Ben Bishop
Greiss gets the nod on Thursday vs. the Predators.

Greiss stopped 22 of 24 shots in the Islanders 4-2 win over the Jets on Monday afternoon. Jaroslav Halak appears to be nearing a return, but he is not quite ready to go, so Greiss will make his third start of the year tonight vs. Nashville. So far he is 1-0-1 with a 2.47 GAA and .915 SV%.

Thomas Greiss
Holtby will be in net on Thursday vs. the Blackhawks.

Holtby allowed three goals on 30 shots in the Capitals’ 5-0 loss to the Sharks on Tuesday. Holtby has had a tough start to the season, allowing three goals in each of his first two starts. Things will not get any easier tonight with the Blackhawks in town—if there is any bright light, it is that Chicago was shutout last night by Michal Neuvirth.

Braden Holtby
Fleury will be between the pipes on Thursday vs. the Senators.

Fleury allowed three goals on 30 shots in the Penguins loss to the Canadiens on Tuesday. The Penguins have opened the season on a three-game losing streak, but will go back to Fleury tonight vs. Ottawa. Fleury comes in with a 2.73 GAA and .914 SV% on the young season.

Marc-Andre Fleury
Lounge starts Thursday vs. the Sabres.

Luongo made 32 saves on 33 shots in the Panthers loss to the Flyers on Monday. Luongo was great, but Michal Neuvirth was even better, resulting in Lu’s first loss of the season. After getting the night off on Tuesday, Luongo will be back in goal tonight vs. a Sabres team who looks much better than they did in 2014-15.

Roberto Luongo
Gustavsson will make his Bruins debut on Wednesday.

Gustavsson won the Bruins’ backup job during training camp by posted a 2.07 GAA and .933 SV%. Gustavsson enters play tonight with a career 2.89 GAA and. 901 SV% in 148 NHL games with the Maple Leafs and Red Wings. He draws a tough matchup tonight against an Avalanche team who has scored 10 goals in their first two games.

Jonas Gustavsson
Shattenkirk (lower-body) is questionable for Thursday.

Shattenkirk suffered a lower-body injury on Tuesday and is questionable for tomorrow’s game against the Oilers. With Shattenkirk likely out, look for Colton Parayko to take on a bigger role and for Joel Edmundson to get back into the lineup.

Kevin Shattenkirk
Ward will be in goal on Friday vs. Detroit.

Ward surrendered four goals on 19 shots in the Hurricanes loss to the Red Wings last Saturday. It has been nearly one week since Ward’s last start after he was given Tuesday night off in favour of Eddie Lack. Tonight, he will face the Red Wings again, looking for a better result than six days ago. It won’t be an easy task, no one has been able to beat the Wings yet.

Cam Ward
Ramo will start in goal on Friday vs. the Jets.

Ramo allowed four goals on 44 shots in the Flames’ season opening loss to the Canucks. Jonas Hiller started the last two games, but Ramo will get back into the crease tonight in Winnipeg. Ramo was 7-6-0 with a 2.41 GAA and 923 SV% in 17 road appearances last season .

Karri Ramo
Gustavsson was the first goalie off of the ice at the Bruins' morning skate.

Boyle is expected to be back in the Rangers' lineup on Thursday.

Boyle served as healthy scratch on Tuesday, but it looks like he will be back in the lineup tomorrow vs. the Canadiens. Boyle has one assist and a plus-2 rating through three games this year. Look for Dylan McIlrath to be scratched with Boyle coming back.
