Gudlevskis appeared to have the inside track to be Ben Bishop’s backup to start the season after Andrei Vasilevskiy got injured. However, after the Lightning claimed Kevin Poulin off of waivers, it became clear Gudlevskis was heading back to the AHL. He had a 3.33 GAA and .884 SV% in two preseason games.
Smith, 26, lost the Bruins’ backup job to Jonas Gustavsson and has been sent back to Providence where he will split the crease with Malcolm Subban. Smith was 22-11-5 with a 2.05 GAA and .933 SV% in 39 games with Providence last season.
Harrison had five points (2G / 3A) in 35 games with the Jets after being acquired from the Hurricanes last season. The 32-year-old will head back to the AHL for the first time since 2009-10 when he played 32 games with Albany.
Panik, 24, had 11 goals and six assists (17 points) in 76 games with the Maple Leafs last season. Toronto brought in a tonne of depth pieces this offseason which continuously push Panik down the depth chart, to the point where he has been placed on waivers with the intention of sending him to the minors.
Biega, 27, had one goal in seven games with the Canucks last year. The 2006 fifth round pick heads back to Utica where had 19 points (3G / 16A) in 62 games.
Vey, 24, spent last year with the Canucks, but lost out to the Canucks’ younger prospects like Jared McCan and Jake Virtanen. Vey will head to the AHL for the first time since 2013-14, when he had 48 points (14G / 34A) in 43 games with Manchester.
Corrado, 22, had one goal in 10 games with the Canucks last season and 16 points (7G / 9A) in 35 games with their AHL affiliate in Utica. Corrado is a strong puck-moving defenseman who should spend the year in the NHL after being claimed by the rebuilding Maple Leafs.
Byron, 26, has been a nice depth piece for the Flames over the last few seasons, but after Zack Kassian was suspended indefinitely on Monday, the Habs claimed Byron from Calgary. Byron had six goals and 13 assists (19 points) in 57 games with the Flames last season.
Berube, 24, was claimed by the Islanders as insurance for Jaroslav Halak, who has been battling injury during the preseason. The 24-year-old net minder had an outstanding 37-9-4 with a 2.18 GAA and .913 SV% in 52 games with Manchester (AHL) last season.
With Andrew Hammond out with groin injury, Anderson is set to start the first couple of games for the Senators. Anderson went 1-1-0 with a 3.05 GAA and .917 SV% in four preseason games and opens the season with a strong matchup in Buffalo. Anderson made 19 saves in a winning performance in his only start against the Sabres last year.
Schroeder had no points and a minus-1 rating in three games during the preseason. He has been placed on waivers and if he clears, he is expected to be sent to Iowa.
Reilly, 22, signed with the Wild after recording 42 points (6G / 36A) in 39 games at the University of Minnesota last year. During the preseason he failed to record a point and had a minus-1 rating in four games.
Dupuis has not played since November 15th of last year because of a blood clot in his lung. He has gotten over the blood clot, but will be out for at least another month with a lower-body injury. Dupuis injury allowed Daniel Sprong to crack the opening night roster.
Kassian was in a car accident at 6 a.m on Sunday morning and fractured his leg and nose in the incident. Kassian will be suspended without pay until he’s cleared to play agains by the program’s administrators.
Mason is coming off of one of the best seasons of his career, in which he finished third in the NHL in SV% (.928) and seventh in GAA (2.25). He will get a tough test in his first start of the season when he takes on the Tampa Bay Lightning—Mason was 1-0-2 with a 2.58 GAA and .925 SV% in three preseason games.
The NHL’s press release read: “Torres has been suspended 41 games without pay for interference and an illegal check to the head against [Silfverberg].” Torres will forfeit over $440K as a result of the suspension. Torres had just worked himself back from two knee surgeries, but he will now have to wait half of the season before he plays again.
A few days before the Sharks season gets underway, the 23-year-old Donskoi found himself skating on a line with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski. Donkoi has spent the last six years playing with Karpat of the Finnish league before signing with the Sharks. Last season he led Karpat with 49 points (19G / 30A) in 58 games—12 more points than second on the team.
Greene has been battling an upper-body injury for over a week and despite returning to practice on Monday, head coach Darryl Sutter has listed Greene as doubtful for Wednesday’s game against the Sharks.
