NHL Hockey Player News

Lack starts for the Canucks.

Lack gave up four goals on 35 shots in a loss to the Penguins on Tuesday. It was the third consecutive game that Lack has allowed four goals. He has lost his last four outings while allowed 15 goals and posting an .896 SV%. He has a dreadful matchup tonight against the Blues who have won seven consecutive games, while outscoring the opposition 32-12.

Eddie Lack
Eriksson (concussion) appears set to return on Saturday against San Jose.

Eriksson has missed the last 15 games after suffering a concussion on December 7. It was the second concussion that Eriksson has suffered this season, they have kept him out of a total of 20 games. In the 24 games that Eriksson has suited up for, he has registered five goals and nine assists (14 points). If he is still available in your league, he would be a good addition to provide depth at both wing positions.

Loui Eriksson
Thornton is eligible to return to the Bruins lineup on Saturday after serving his 15-game suspension.

Thornton will skate on the Bruins fourth line with Daniel Paille and Gregory Campbell on Saturday in San Jose. He is not a serviceable fantasy player.

Shawn Thornton
The Red Wings have recalled Riley Sheahan from Grand Rapids (AHL).

With the Red Wings missing Pavel Datsyuk, Darren Helm and Johan Franzen, they are in need of another centre, hence the recall of Sheahan. Sheahan recorded two assists in four games with the Red Wings, both came in a game vs. the Maple Leafs on December 21. He could find himself in the lineup in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Riley Sheahan
Rome in; Kevin Connauton out.

Rome missed the last two games with an upper-body ailment but will return tonight against the Rangers. Rome has registered one assist in eight games with the Stars this season. He has just 28 points (6G / 22A) in 209 career NHL games, he is known more for his defines than his offence which makes him irrelevant in terms of fantasy.

Roussel in; Dustin Jeffrey out.

Roussel was a healthy scratch last night, but will return to the lineup tonight vs. the Rangers. Roussel has become on of the NHL's premiere "pests" and is a serviceable asset in leagues that include PIMs. He currently leads all players with a 109 PIMs and his 15 points (8G / 7A) is tops among players in the top-10 in PIMs.

Antoine Roussel
Berra gets the start on Saturday.

Berra surrendered six goals on 30 shots in a loss to Coyotes on Tuesday. The Flames goaltending situation is pretty gloomy right now and it probably is not wise to own Berra or Karri Ramo, except for in the deepest of leagues. If you do own Berra, do yourself a favour and leave him on your bench against the Penguins on Saturday.

Reto Berra
HIller starts on Saturday vs. Phoenix.

HIller allowed two goals on 32 shots in a win over the Bruins on Tuesday. Hiller has been en fuego lately winning 12 straight starts dating back to December 6. On Saturday he will face the Coyotes who he is 4-0-0 with a 1.96 GAA and .937 SV% against this season. He is a must-start, but you already knew that.

Jonas Hiller
Zatkoff is the Penguins confirmed starter.

Zatkoff stopped 25 of 28 shots in a win over the Blue Jackets on December 28. Zatkoff has won seven straight outings and sits at 7-2-0 with a 2.52 GAA and .910 SV%. He makes for a great spot-start option tonight against the Oilers, who have lost five of their six games and are starting a struggling Devan Dubnyk.

Jeff Zatkoff
Kane (hand) is doubtful for Saturday's game.

Kane missed practice for the second straight day and is unlikely to play tomorrow vs. the Blue Jackets. This is a tough break for Kane owners who have enjoyed seven goals and four assists (11 points) in his last 12 games since returning from a lower-body injury. If he is unable to play, Eric O'Dell is expected to take his spot on the Jets' second line. Monitor his status following the morning skate.

Evander Kane
Booth will be a healthy scratch for the second straight game.

Booth has not recorded a point in his last five games and only has 10 points (5G / 5A) in 32 games this season. The one-time 30-goal scorer and three-time 20-goal man is just a shade of his former self.

David Booth
The Ducks have reassigned Frederik Andersen to Norfolk (AHL).

Andersen allowed three goals on 26 shots in a win over the Predators last night, but as been sent down so he can get more playing time, something he his not getting behind a red-hot Jonas Hiller right now. He is expected to start tonight with Norfolk. Andersen has a bright future ahead of him, but he is only a spot-start option when with the Ducks at this point in his career.

Frederik Andersen
The Ducks have recalled John Gibson from Norfolk (AHL).

Gibson, 20, is in his first full season in the AHL and is having a strong campaign to this point. He is 11-9-3 with a 2.61 GAA and .915 SV%. He has been recalled because the Ducks want Frederik Andersen to get more starts. Gibson will serve as the Ducks' number-2 behind the scorching Jonas Hiller. Anaheim has a back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday, there is a chance that Gibson could make his NHL debut this weekend.

John Gibson
Looks like Zatkoff gets the start tonight.

Gagner will shift to the wing and play on the Oilers top line tonight.

Gagner will skate with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall against the Penguins tonight. After a breakout year in 2012-13 (14G / 24A), Gagner has taken a step back this season. He has recorded 17 points (5G / 12A) with a terrible minus-17 in 33 games. That puts him on pace for a career-low 36 points, which is two lower than he had in last years shortened campaign.

Sam Gagner
Crawford gets the call on Saturday.

Crawford surrendered three goals on 32 shots in Wednesday's loss to the Rangers. Crawford will get the call against the Habs on Saturday in search of his first win since returning from a leg injury. He is 0-1-2 with a 2.60 GAA and .926 SV% in three starts since reclaiming his starting gig. Montreal has lost four of their last six games while being outscored 21-17.

Corey Crawford
Poulin starts for the Islanders.

Poulin gave up three goals on 26 shots in a win over the Maple Leafs on Tuesday. He has recorded a win in each of his last three outings while recording a 3.23 GAA and .885 SV%. His streak will be put to the test tonight against a good Colorado team on the road.
