NHL Hockey Player News

Roberto Luongo vs. Tim Thomas is tonight's expected goalie matchup.

Thomas allowed one goal on 33 shots in a win over the Avalanche on Saturday. It was Thomas' fourth win of the season and 200th of his NHL career. He will likely be in the cage tonight as he looks for win 201 against the Canucks.

Rangers reporter jumped the gun on Johnson starting vs. his former team, Bruins won't disclose him or Tuukka Rask - We will make Johnson probable and confirm when Bruins announce starter.

With Tuukka Rask in net on Monday, Johnson may get the nod on Tuesday. In his last start he allowed two goals on 34 shots in a win over the Blue Jackets. He has very little fantasy value because Rask sees the vast majority of the Bruins starts, but he could have some spot start value tonight vs. the Rangers 26th ranked offence.

Chad Johnson
Varlamov starts for the Avalanche.

Varlamov allowed four goals on 33 shots in a loss to the Panthers on Saturday. It was his fourth loss in his last five starts. After a 7-1-0 October, Varly is 2-4-0 with a 3.06 GAA and .898 SV% in November. He has a difficulties matchup with the reigning Stanley Cup Champions in town tonight.

Semyon Varlamov
Harding goes vs. Montreal.

Harding allowed one goal on 22 shots to record his fourth straight win and ninth in his last 10 starts. Basically, Harding is lights-out right now and appears impossible to beat. He carries a 1.25 GAA and .946 SV% into tonight's contest with the Habs.

Howard in goal for Detroit.

Howard gave up three goals on 33 shots in another shootout loss for Detroit. Howard has lost five straight and is 1-1-4 with a 3.03 GAA and .899 SV% in November. The Red Wings have been outplaying opponents but can not put them away, they will look to get their first home win of the season tonight vs. former division foe Nashville.

Jimmy Howard
Smith (shoulder) returns to the Red Wings lineup tonight.

Smith missed the last six games, in which the Red Wings went 0-5-1. Smith has had a slow start to the season with just one assist and a minus-7 rating in 11 games. He will dress as the Red Wings seventh defensman vs. the Predators tonight. He has no fantasy value until he starts putting numbers on the stat sheet.

Brendan Smith
Former Ranger Chad Johnson in net tonight for the Bruins.

With Tuukka Rask in net on Monday, Johnson gets the nod on Tuesday. In his last start he allowed two goals on 34 shots in a win over the Blue Jackets. He has very little fantasy value because Rask sees the vast majority of the Bruins starts, but he has some spot start value tonight vs. the Rangers 26th ranked offence.

Chad Johnson
Mazanec starts for the Predators.

Mazanec stopped 39 of 41 shots vs the Blackhawks to record his first NHL win on Saturday. In four appearances he has a 3.16 GAA and .911 SV%, and has become the Predators go-to-guy with Carter Hutton struggling. Mazanec will face a Red Wings team who come in 0-5-1 in their last six games.

Marek Mazanec
The Sabres have sent Mikhail Grigorenko to Rochester (AHL) on a conditioning stint.

Sabres head coach Ted Nolan said that his team has too many teenagers on the team, but that changed today when they sent four players down. There were rumblings that Grigorenko was going to go back to the QMJHL but the Quebec Ramparts already have their two import players so Grigorenko goes to Rochester and is expected to be back with the Sabres soon. Grigorenko will get a chance to play big minutes in the AHL and regain some confidence in his game.

Mikhail Grigorenko
Poulin will start for the Islanders.

Poulin allowed three goals on 22 shots in a relief effort shootout win over the Red Wings on Saturday. With Evgeni Nabokov on IR the 23-year-old Poulin becomes the default Isles starter. He has played well this season going 3-5-0 with a 2.51 GAA and .909 SV% in eight appearances. He has an OK matchup vs. a banged up Maple Leafs team.

Kevin Poulin
Kessel (flu) will play tonight.

Kessel missed Monday's practice because of the flu, but it will not hold him out of Tuesday's contest. Kessel has cooled off after a hot-start, he has not scored in his last four games and only one goal in his last seven. With Tyler Bozak's return just around the corner, expect Kessel to heat-up again.

Phil Kessel
Miller will be between the pipes for Sabres.

Miller stopped 32 of 33 shots to lead the Sabres to a win over the Leafs on Friday. It was his second straight win and third in his last four starts. Miller's .919 SV% is evidence that Miller has played well, but needs more help from the young squad in front of him. Miller has a tough matchup tonight vs. St. Louis.

Ryan Miller
Nash (concussion) will play tonight.

Nash has missed the last 17 games after being concussed on a Brad Stuart hit on October 8. It was a lengthy recovery, but he will make his long awaited return tonight vs. Boston. The 29-year-old forward had 42 points (21G / 21A) in 44 games with the Rangers last season. He has been a consistent 30-plus goal scorer throughout his career, so it is fair to expected him to score 25-plus goals in the remaining 62 games of the season.

Rick Nash
No surprise, Lundqvist starts for the Rangers.

Lundqvist gave up just one goal on 30 shots but still walked away with the loss on Sunday vs. the Kings. The Rangers could not beat Ben Scrivens, leaving Lundqvist owners wanting more. He will look to avoid a third straight start tonight against a strong Bruins team.

Henrik Lundqvist
Lehner starts for the Senators.

Lehner allowed two goals on 28 shots in a win over the Panthers on November 9. He has won each of his last three starts with a 1.33 GAA and .958 SV%.With Craig Anderson struggling, Lehner has a chance to earn more starts if he continues his stellar play. He has a good matchup vs. Phildelphia; however the Senators lost 5-0 last Tuesday at home against the Flyers.

Robin Lehner
Mason starts.

Mason stopped 36 of 38 shots in a shootout loss on Friday. Mason has been great as of late going 2-0-2 with a 1.45 GAA and .952 SV% in his last four starts. He has a solid matchup vs. a streaky Ottawa team that he posted a 24-save shutout against last Tuesday.
