Goalie Start
Joey MacDonald will start his third straight game tomorrow.
This is a bit surprising after MacDonald gave up five goals on 28 shots in the 5-4 OT loss to the Canucks on Sunday. He is now 1-0-1 with a 3.94 GAA and .867 SV%. He will face the 1-1-0 Montreal Canadiens who have scored seven goals in their first two contests.
Goalie Start
Niemi is the likely starter for the Sharks.
The Sharks have looked great so far, leading to two easy wins for Niemi. He has posted a 1.00 GAA and .956 GAA so far and looks to go to 3-0 vs. the Rangers tonight. It is not the best matchup, but how can you sit Niemi right now?
Call up / Send down
The Minnesota Wild has recalled Carson McMillan from the Iowa Wild (AHL).
The 25-year-old has registered two goals and three assists (five points), a plus-2 rating and 11 penalty minutes in 15 career contests with Minnesota. The 6-foot-1, 196-pound forward tallied 18 points (9G / 9A), 31 PIM and a plus-4 rating in 64 games with Houston last season.
Goalie Start
Backstrom will start for the WIld.
Backstrom has bee a tough luck loser in each of his first two starts this season. He has given up a total of six goals for a 2.77 GAA and .875 SV%. Backstrom was 2-1-0 with a 1.59 GAA and .935 SV% vs. the Predators in 2012-13.
Goalie Start
Rinne will start for the Predators.
Rinne allowed two goals on 35 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Avalanche on Friday. It was a much improved performance than the debacle he had in the season opener. He allowed one goal on 29 shots in a OT loss in his only start vs. Minnesota last year.
Palmieri missed Ducks practice this morning.
Palmieri left Sunday's game against the Jets and did not return. He has no points and eight shots in the Ducks first three games.
Injury
Emerson Etem (lower body) is back skating with the Ducks for practice.
Etem has been out since the end of September but appears to be nearing a return. He had three goals and seven assists (10 points) in 38 games in 2012-13.
Josi is out tonight with a concussion.
Ryan Ellis will enter the lineup for Josi. He should be considered day-to-day.
Predators announce Spaling out tonight with upper body injury.
Spaling has one assist and an EVEN plus/minus rating through two games. He will be replaced by the now healthy Filip Forsberg.
Line Change
Seth Jones will be paired with Shea Weber to begin tonight's game.
With Roman Josi out with a concussion the Predators have to shake up their pairings a bit. Jones has yet to register a point but he has averaged 22:11 TOI in his first two NHL games. Alongside Weber, Jones could become a legit fantasy option in his rookie season.
Injury
Boll (upper body) was a full participant in Blue Jacket's morning skate.
Boll is expected to make his season debut on Thursday in Buffalo.
Richard Panik out; Tom Pyatt in.
Panik averaged 13:02 TOI and was a minus-2 in Tampa Bay's first two games.
Line Change
Tom Pyatt in; Richard Panik out.
Pyatt had eight goals and eight assists (16 points) in 43 games with the Lightning last year. He will play in Panik's spot on the second line with Valtteri Filppula and Alex Kilorn.
Lindholm will play tonight.
Lindholm status for tonight was up in the air after suffering an arm laceration on Sunday. He will be back in his regular spot as the Hurricanes fourth line centre.
Goalie Start
Ben Bishop off first for the Lightning this morning. Will start vs. Sabres.
The Lightning were dominated by the Blackhawks on Saturday, but Bishop was tremendous and led Tampa Bay to a shootout win. He allowed two goals on 39 shots in his first start of the season. Tonight he has a good matchup vs. a Sabres team who is struggling to score.
Goalie Start
Ward starts for the Hurricanes.
Ward played well stopping 35 of 38 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Wings on Friday. Anton Khudobin was given the following start so Ward will be in the cage tonight vs. Pittsburgh. He stopped 26 of 27 shots in a winning effort in his only start vs. the Penguins last year.
Line Change
Ott has moved up to the Sabres top line with Thomas Vanek and Cody Hodgson.
Buffalo has scored just two goals in their first three games so it is not surprising that they have decided to shake up their lines. Ott has yet to post any points, but his spot on the top line should help him find the stat sheet.
Foligno (upper body) returns to the Sabres lineup tonight.
Foligno will make his season debut on the Sabres second line with Tyler Ennis and Drew Stafford. The trio played together for much of last season; when Foligno had five goals and 13 assists in 47 games.
Flyers new head coach Craig Berube has shuffled all of their lines. Wayne Simmonds is now on the top line with Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell.
SImmonds has no points and is a minus-2 through three games. A move to the top-line with the playmaking Giroux should help him get into the goal column.
