NHL Hockey Player News

Brad Stuart (lower-body) will return to the Sharks blueline tonight.

Stuart will make his season debut tonight, at home against the Rangers. He will replace Scott Hannan and be paired with Jason Demers. Stuart posted the worst offensive statistics of his career in 2012-13 (0 G / 6 A). He will look to bounce back this season on a Sharks team that will produce offensively.

Brad Stuart
Niemi vs. Lundqvist in San Jose.

The Sharks have looked great so far, leading to two easy wins for Niemi. He has posted a 1.00 GAA and .956 GAA so far and looks to go to 3-0 vs. the Rangers tonight. It is not the best matchup, but how can you sit Niemi right now?

Antti Niemi
Lundqvist will start for the Rangers.

Lundqvist turned aside 28 of 29 shots in 3-1 win over the Kings last night. The win was the first of the year for the Rangers netminder. According to blueshirtsunited.com Lundqvist has started on consecutive nights 65 times in his NHL career and he is an incredible 41-17-7 with a 1.94 goals against average and six shutouts in the second game. He will another tough western conference team tonight in San Jose.

Henrik Lundqvist
Jaroslav Halak will start Wednesday vs. the Blackhawks

Halak stopped all 19 shots he faced in a 7-0 dismantling of the Panthers on Saturday. He is off to a good start this season with a 1.00 GAA and .959 SV%. The Blues plan to give Halak the majority of the starts going forward, instead of splitting time. It would be a good time to pick him up if he is available.

Jaroslav Halak
Joey MacDonald will start his third straight game tomorrow.

This is a bit surprising after MacDonald gave up five goals on 28 shots in the 5-4 OT loss to the Canucks on Sunday. He is now 1-0-1 with a 3.94 GAA and .867 SV%. He will face the 1-1-0 Montreal Canadiens who have scored seven goals in their first two contests.

Niemi is the likely starter for the Sharks.

The Minnesota Wild has recalled Carson McMillan from the Iowa Wild (AHL).

The 25-year-old has registered two goals and three assists (five points), a plus-2 rating and 11 penalty minutes in 15 career contests with Minnesota. The 6-foot-1, 196-pound forward tallied 18 points (9G / 9A), 31 PIM and a plus-4 rating in 64 games with Houston last season.

Backstrom will start for the WIld.

Backstrom has bee a tough luck loser in each of his first two starts this season. He has given up a total of six goals for a 2.77 GAA and .875 SV%. Backstrom was 2-1-0 with a 1.59 GAA and .935 SV% vs. the Predators in 2012-13.

Niklas Backstrom
Rinne will start for the Predators.

Rinne allowed two goals on 35 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Avalanche on Friday. It was a much improved performance than the debacle he had in the season opener. He allowed one goal on 29 shots in a OT loss in his only start vs. Minnesota last year.

Pekka Rinne
Seth Jones will be paired with Shea Weber to begin tonight's game.

With Roman Josi out with a concussion the Predators have to shake up their pairings a bit. Jones has yet to register a point but he has averaged 22:11 TOI in his first two NHL games. Alongside Weber, Jones could become a legit fantasy option in his rookie season.
