NHL Hockey Player News

Byfuglien skated today but is still considered day-to-day.

Byfuglien was off to a good start to the season (3 G - 4 A in 7 games) but this injury has kept him out of the Jets last three games and he will miss tonight. He should be returning in the near future.

Dustin Byfuglien
#NHLJets will start Ondrej Pavelec in net tonight, the #Leafs

Pavelec finally ended a 3 game skid where he allowed 14 goals with a win against Florida. Pavelec is struggling this season so I would stay away until he gets back on track. He has a good matchup tonight against the Maple Leafs, but his GAA (3.31) and SV% (.889) are definite red flags that might make you think twice about playing him.

Ondrej Pavelec
Bryzgalov will start tonight for the Flyers.

Bryzgalov has been the lone bright spot for the Flyers this season. He is only 4-5-0 but his GAA (2.24) and SV% (.923) are great. It's tough to bench Bryz at this point because of those numbers, if the Flyers can start scoring he will become an even better fantasy option. He has a great matchup tonight vs. the Panthers.

Ilya Bryzgalov
Mrazek will start tonight for the Red Wings.

This will mark Mrazek's NHL debut. He is 16-7-1 with a 2.26 GAA and .916 SV%, so if he can translate those numbers into the NHL he could prove to be a great backup to Jimmy Howard. However Howard is a workhorse so his backup will likely not see much action. And when Jonas Gustavsson returns from injury Mrazek will likely return to the AHL.

Petr Mrazek
Granlund will be a healthy scratch tonight for the Wild.

Granlund has struggled to start his NHL career. He is still only 20 years old and is tremendously skilled. He will find his groove eventually but for now he is only valuable in deep keeper leagues until he gets back into the lineup and starts scoring.

Mikael Granlund
Reimer will get the start tonight for the Leafs.

Reimer who is a Manitoba native will get the start tonight in Winnipeg. Reimer and Scrivens have played very similar this season, both have .500 records with 2.71 GAA (Reimer) and 2.70 GAA (Scrivens) so the #1 goalie spot really seems up for grabs still. Reimer has seen the majorities of the starts however, and has a good matchup vs. the Jets tonight.

James Reimer
Visnovsky has passed his physical. Will join team Friday for practice. #Isles

Visnovsky is finally ready to join the Islanders on Friday. He won't play tonight obviously so he will have missed the Isles first 10 games. He can play in the Isles 38 remaining game and is still a good fantasy option. He should see a lot of power-play time either on the 1st unit alongside Mark Streit or quarterbacking the 2nd unit.

Lubomir Visnovsky
Zubrus is out for tonight's game vs. Tampa Bay.

Zubrus was hurt in the Devils last game against the Rangers. He only has 1 G and 3 A in 9 games on the Devils first line. Rookie Stefan Matteau will assume his spot on New Jersey's top-line with Travis Zajac and Ilya Kovalchuk. Consider Zubrus as day-to-day.

Dainius Zubrus
Ehrhoff returns to the Sabres lineup tonight.

Lindy Ruff called Ehrhoff's injury a "muscle ailment" that kept him out of Tuesday's game against Ottawa. He will be back in the lineup tonight vs. Montreal and should log a lot of minutes with a couple of injuries on the Sabres blueline. He only has 1 assist in 9 games but sees a lot of power-play time so the points will come.

Christian Ehrhoff
Lundqvist gets the start tonight for the Rangers.

Lundqvist has been a disappointment this season, he is 3-5-0 with a 2.83 GAA and .900 SV%. These are not the numbers any of his fantasy owners expected when they drafted him. One of the big issues for Lundqvist is that the Rangers are 26th in the NHL in Goals for per game at 2.22. The Rangers as a whole are struggling, but will look to get back on track tonight vs. the Islanders.

Henrik Lundqvist
Nabokov will start tonight for the Islanders.

Nabokov has been a workhorse this season for the Islanders starting all but 1 game thus far. He is 4-3-1 with a 2.99 GAA and .905 SV% and as long as the Islanders are staying competitive Nabby is a solid #2 fantasy goalie option. The addition of Visnovsky will help Nabokov as well.

Evgeni Nabokov
Marc-Andre Fleury first goalie off ice for Penguins. Looks like he will start vs. #Caps.

Fleury played well enough against the Islanders to earn him his second straight start tonight. He has now won each of his last two starts posting a 1.50 GAA and .940 SV%. Looks like he is back on track and is going to need to keep it up if he wants to keep his #1 job, because Vokoun is playing great.

Marc-Andre Fleury
The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired a 2014 fifth-round draft pick from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Ben Lovejoy, it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

The acquisition is considered a depth move from the Pens who are currently dealing with an injured Fowler. Lovejoy wasn't a major fantasy contributor with the Pens so it is unlikely he will find an offensive stride with the Ducks.

Ben Lovejoy
Miller gets the nod for the Sabres.

Miller has struggled to open the season posting a 3-4-1 record with a 3.11 GAA and .906 SV%. In his last 4 starts he's allowed 4 goals in each game going 1-2-1 in that stretch. The one thing he has going for him is the Sabres are scoring, but he needs to start stopping more rubber if he is going to be a #1 fantasy option.
