NHL Hockey Player News

Jake Allen likely starter for #STLBlues tonight.

With Halak out with an injury and Elliott on a major slump it looks like Allen will get his second straight start tonight vs. the Flames. Allen didn't see a lot of shots in his first start, stopping 15 of 18 shots he faced against Detroit and recording the OT win. He has a pretty good match-up tonight against Calgary and could be worth a spot start; if you trust the young netminder.

Jake Allen
Kesler medically cleared to play. Looks real good. Played on regular line. On PP 1. All indications, he's ready to go.

It looks like Kesler will make his season debut tomorrow vs. Dallas and will play on a line with Zach Kassian and Chris Higgins. If he is available in your league, I would scoop him up.

Ryan Kesler
Schneider gets the start tomorrow for the Canucks.

Are the Canucks going to trade Luongo? Are they not? Does not seem to matter at this point as both Schneider and Luongo are playing great hockey for the Canucks. Schneider will start tomorrow vs. the Stars and should be started in fantasy as well. He is coming in on a two game winning streak.

Cory Schneider
Leyland Irving will start tomorrow for the Flames.

Irving recorded his second win of the year last night in a 7-4 win over the Dallas Stars. Irving played well although allowing one soft goal and should continue to see the majority of the starts as long as Kiprusoff is on the shelf. He has a tough match-up vs. the Blues, look elsewhere.

Leland Irving
Rinne will start tonight for the Predators.

Rinne continues to play well this season. 5-3-3, 1.75 GAA and .934 SV% are the numbers of an elite netminder. The Predators aren't a great team so Rinne won't win as many games as you would probably like but with numbers like that he is still an elite fantasy option. Start him.

Pekka Rinne
Smith vs. Rinne tonight in a huge goalie match-up.

Smith had two great wins in his last two outings. He stopped 74 of 76 shots that he faced, including a shutout against the San Jose Sharks. Both the Coyotes and Predators offense aren't that stellar so it is going to be whichever goalie can steal this one. Smith has found his game as of late and has regained his spot as a #1 fantasy goalie.

Mike Smith
Kesler taking line rushes with Kassian and Higgins #Canucks

Kesler has ditched the no-contact jersey and looks like he is ready to return to the Canucks lineup. The line with Kassian and Higgins provides a lot of speed to go along with grit, toughness and goal scoring ability. Kesler is owned in 79.3% of ESPN fantasy leagues, so if your league is in that 21% where he is not owned... I would suggest picking him up. Kesler had 22 G, 27 A and was a +11 in 77 games last year.

Ryan Kesler
Expect the same lineup tonight for Preds. (ie. Rinne Starting)

Rinne continues to play well this season. 5-3-3, 1.75 GAA and .934 SV% are the numbers of an elite netminder. The Predators aren't a great team so Rinne won't win as many games as you would probably like but with numbers like that he is still an elite fantasy option. Start him.

Pekka Rinne
#NHLJets D Zach Bogosian says he is ready to play Friday. We will see what Claude Noel says shortly.

This is great news for the Jets, Bogosian had 5 G, 25 A, -3 and 117 hits in 65 games last season. The young blueliner will be a welcomed return to a Jets blueline that already has Tobias Enstrom (2G, 11A, -3, 6PPP) and Dustin Byfuglien (3G, 4A, +1, 4PPP). Bogosian will likely take a few games to get back into game shape but he would be a good pickup because of his offensive upside.

Zach Bogosian
Emery will start tomorrow for the Blackhawks.

The Blackhawks who still haven't lost in regulation this season will turn to Ray Emery to keep their hot-streak going. Emery has started in 3 games this season posting a 3-0-0 record with 2.59 GAA and .920 SV%. He has a decent match-up against an up-and-down Sharks team.

Ray Emery
Howard confirmed he is starting tomorrow, as expected.

Howard had a great performance against the Kings on Sunday but looked shaky last night vs. St. Louis. The road doesn't get any easier for him as he will take on one of the NHL's hottest teams, the Anaheim Ducks. Howard has been a solid #1 fantasy option this season and should continue to play well.

Jimmy Howard
Leafs have put Matt Frattin on IR. Carlyle made it sound like they're hoping he's back by end of month, so expect much longer than a week.

More bad news for the Maple Leafs as his original timetable of a one week absence looks like it was on the low-side. Monitor Frattin's status going forward, but it looks like he is going to miss a couple of weeks.

Matt Frattin
Michalek "twisted his knee" and had a little swelling. Team is hoping he will only miss a game or two #nhl #sens

On a night where the Senators lose Erik Karlsson for the season they also lose Michalek to a less serious injury. Doesn't seem like Michalek will be out long-term, but monitor his status going forward.

Milan Michalek
Hedberg will start Saturday for the Devils.

Hedberg has been excellent as Martin Brodeur's backup this season. He is 2-0-1 with an outstanding 0.65 GAA and .973 SV% with 1 shutout. He has a good match-up as well as the Devils take on the Islanders on Saturday. Hedberg is a good spot start.
