“Erik underwent wrist surgery this morning at Methodist Hospital. The surgery was performed by Dr. Randy Culp. We expect Erik to be out of action for six weeks.”

Gustaffsson's injury is a tough one for the kid, who seemed to have earned a spot in the lineup. If you own him, feel safe in dropping the young defender as he holds no fantasy hockey value while on IR.

Erik Gustafsson
The good news is that Zubrus said he was OK after the game. Although he admitted he was “out of it” briefly when he was on the ice, he said he felt the need to go to the quiet room for head injury observation after the hit because he felt fine once he reached the bench.

Doesn't sound like Zubrus will miss any playing time. Thus far, the versatile forward has scored four goals and eight points through 17 games.

#mnwild has now officially signed Kris Fredheim, meaning he should make his #nhl debut tomorrow.

Fredheim registered two points through 15 games and likely holds no fantasy hockey value. The Campbell River, BC native is an alumni of Colorado College currently in his second professional season.

“Niitty is down the road. We haven’t even started to talk about weeks or months or anything like that,” he said. “We just know that he’s down the road. Have I given any thought to it? No, no thought at all.”

At this point there is no reason to own Antero Niittymaki as his status remains indefinite.

Ilya Bryzgalov wasn’t being a cool customer when asked about facing his most recent former team for the first time during the Flyers game on Thursday with the Phoenix Coyotes at the Wells Fargo Center.

In 10 career starts against the Coyotes, Bryzgalov holds a 7-2-0 record with a 1.98 GAA and .919 SV%.

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- It appears that defenseman Brendan Smith will make his NHL debut for the Detroit Red Wings Thursday against the San Jose Sharks at HP Pavilion (10:30 p.m., Fox Sports Net Detroit).

Smith probably replaces Mike Commodore in the lineup. The rookie registered five assists over 11 AHL games.

I don’t even know how to answer that, quite honestly. There’s nothing new. Nothing has changed. It hasn’t improved, it hasn’t gotten worse. It’s definitely more than a day-to-day situation with him. We’ll have to make a decision on where this goes

Parse remains out long term with no definite return date. The oft-injured winger has two goals through nine games this season.

He’s going to improve. The off-ice conditioning program and the rehab is going to help him get better every day. He didn’t lose all of his strength, which was surprising with the kind of injury that he has. We’re hoping, with seven days, that he will be able to get himself back on the ice and start to practice, and we can get a read on him.

Sounds like Martinez will be out over the requisite seven days. In the meantime, Slava Voynov will continue playing in his place on the blue line. The Rochester Hills, Michigan scored only two goals through 16 games.

Alec Martinez
Well, that’s the trainers’ call, I guess, on that one. He’s getting better. He’s going to get better every day. There’s swelling, and that needs to get taken care of, and then they will see where he’s at after the swelling goes down. With the I.R., he’s seven days for sure, and then we’ll just make a decision after that.

Penner will remain on the IR until tomorrow (11/17). Based of Murray's comments it appears that the team will let him rest until fully healthy. The Winkler, Manitoba native has struggled so far with only two assists through 14 games.

How serious is Andrew Ebbett's broken foot? 10 games. #Canucks put him on LTIR, making Ebbett ineligible to play until Dec. 6.

With everyone healthy, Ebbett figured to be a healthy scratch anyways. The undrafted pivot scored a goal and two points through five games before blocking a fateful shot.
