COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned defenseman David Savard to the Springfield Falcons, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, Blue Jackets Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced October 26.

With James Wisniewski back from his suspension, the team didn't need to subject Savard to their losing ways. Safe to drop as he figures to spend most of the season in the AHL.

Whitney, who missed over nine months after ankle surgery last January to repair a dislocated tendon, came back to play one shift late in the first, but he took off his gear after that. He hobbled from the rink and could be out a week or two.

Doesn't sound good for the team's #1 defender. Look for Theo Peckham to get back into the lineup.

“It happened in the Columbus game, it was one of those things that was an accident,” Erat said. The Predators and Erat have yet to divulge the exact nature of the forward’s injury. Though the fact that he is now skating with the team is a good sign. Still, Erat said there is no timetable for a return at this juncture.

Not practicing with linemates indicates he is still a bit off from returning. Last season, Erat scored 17 goals and 50 points playing primarily on the top two lines. As an often injured forward, fantasy hockey owners need to temper their expectations.

Drew Miller will replace Cory Emmerton at center. He will be flanked by Patrick Eaves and Tomas Holmstrom.

Eaves and Holmstrom are the only members of this four-five man fourth line with any fantasy hockey significance. Without consistent playing time, none of them should be added in standard mixed leagues.

Boll (broken thumb) said he expects to return in about 2½ weeks. He was envious of Wisniewski today. “I’m going crazy,” Boll said. “At least he had a specific date to point to.”

Boll has been out since preseason and clearly cannot wait to return to the lineup. In leagues that could hits, he certainly holds some fantasy hockey value as he can chip in offensively while not killing you in plus/minus.

The cringe-inducing aftermath of Marc Methot’s “exploded” thumb was sheathed in plastic and wrapped up tight this morning. Methot joined injured forwards Kristian Huselius and Jared Boll for a skate in the Ice Haus while their teammates practiced in the big room. Methot cannot yet wear a glove on his injured hand because of the infection risk but might return this weekend. “Some of the flesh is coming out around the stitches” Methot said. “It’s not very pretty to look at. When I’m at home, I let it air out.”

Gross.

Notable suspensions and fines include Ryan Reaves of the Toronto Maple Leafs who was given a five-game suspension for an illegal check to the head against the Edmonton Oilers, and Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot who was dealt a three-game suspension, also for an illegal hit to the head.

In the 2023-24 season, there were a total of 14 suspensions and 17 fines issued throughout the NHL. Additionally, nothing beats a comeback story, and that can be said about surging veterans such as Anze Koipitar of the Los Angeles Kings, and Matt Duchene of the Dallas Stars.
