He finished the preseason tied for the team lead with two goals and also had one assist in four games. He also had a hat trick in a training camp scrimmage.

Sykora has done everything except win the job outright. Last season, the former 18th overall pick split the year between the Czech league and the KHL. He should earn a contract and get a chance to play on a scoring line at least until Travis Zajac returns.

Urbom made the most of his opportunity in Friday night’s 1-0 win over the Islanders, standing out from a group was made up mostly of players destined to sent to Albany. With Bryce Salvador being rested tonight because of some groin and hip soreness, the 20-year-old Swede got another chance and excelled again in a 2-1 win over the Flyers.

Sounds like Urbom impressed in his preseason debut. Last season the Swedish d-man scored two goals and 23 points last season while playing with the Albany Devils, earning an eight-game tryout with the big club. Should an injury hit Anton Volchenkov or Bryce Salvador, look for Urbom to get called up.

“Taylor had surgery late Friday night and he’ll be staying in the hospital for a bit in Minneapolis to recover and make sure everything goes well,” said Oilers head coach Tom Renney. “I think he’s doing fine, but as you can imagine it’s pretty traumatic.”

Fedun shattered his femur -- the largest bone in the leg, which generally stabilizes. His career could be in jeopardy at this point in time.

“The way things are going (Oilers injuries), it might be the best way to make the team ... unfortunately we’ve had a lot of guys go down,” said Keller, with a large helping of empathy for Fedun’s catastrophic injury.

Keller moved to the blue line following the recent injury to Taylor Fedun. Last season he scored 32 goals and 51 points as a member of the Binghampton Senators, helping them win the Calder Cup. He could earn a spot on the team as he provides depth without needing to play.

Cody Hodgson will centre the second line — as a stand-in for injured Ryan Kesler, who’s expected to miss the first month of the season recovering from hip surgery — between veteran wingers Marco Sturm and Mikael Samuelsson.

Additionally, Perron was fined $148,437.48 for his actions.
