71 players placed on NHL waivers for Sept. 27
A whopping 71 players landed on waivers Sunday as the National Hockey League’s 32 clubs continue to pare down their rosters leading up to the start of the 2026-27 regular season on Sept. 29.
PuckPedia shared the full list of players available on the waiver wire on Sunday. The list includes a handful of intriguing names at every position, most notably a few goaltenders with significant NHL experience and/or untapped potential.
The goaltenders waived Sunday include David Rittich (Devils), Dylan Garand (Rangers), Laurent Brossoit (Ducks), and Vitek Vanecek (Islanders). It wouldn’t be surprising to see a team in need of goaltending help, such as the Winnipeg Jets or Ottawa Senators, submit a claim for one of the available netminders off the waiver wire prior to Monday’s deadline.
The Montreal Canadiens led the way with nine players on waivers, including veteran goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen and recently acquired defenseman Maksymillian Szuber. Additionally, the Canadiens waived forward Brett Berard, which is notable as the player they traded for him earlier this summer, William Trudeau, was claimed off waivers by the Nashville Predators on Saturday.
A handful of relatively established bottom-six forwards are available to teams as of Sunday, including Sam Lafferty (Panthers), Vinnie Hinostroza (Avalanche), Colin Blackwell (Stars), and Taylor Raddysh (Rangers). Additionally, some intriguing younger forwards are also up for grabs, such as Jakob Pelletier (Lightning), Tyler Boucher (Senators), and Alexander Holtz (Golden Knights).
Among the available defensemen, the most eye-catching names are Nick Perbix (Predators), Henri Jokiharju (Bruins), and Donovan Sebrango (Panthers).

Of the 18 players waived on Sept. 26, two were claimed. Goaltender Remi Poirier went from the Stars to the Devils, while defenseman Justin Barron was claimed from the Predators by the Blues. The rest cleared and can all be assigned to the AHL.
