Rasmussen, 26, played in Detroit’s 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday. It’s unclear when or how he suffered his current injury. The 6’6″, 220-pound center has six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 61 games for the Red Wings this season.

Initially selected ninth-overall by Detroit in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, the Surrey, B.C. is now in his seventh full-time season with the Red Wings. His career-best campaign came in 2023-24, when he put up 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points in 75 games.

Rasmussen is in the second season of a four-year, $12.8 million contract.

Brandsegg-Nygard, 20, also played in Detroit’s last game against the Lightning. The cause or nature of his injury is presently unknown. The Oslo, Norway native has seen his first NHL action this season, managing no goals and an assist in 12 games. In 50 games for the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins this season, he’s notched 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points.

Selected 15th overall by the Red Wings in the 2024 Draft, Brandsegg-Nygard is in his first full season playing in North America.

Detroit’s forward group has been hit hard with injuries over the last week or so. Captain Dylan Larkin and veteran Andrew Copp are both expected to be out two weeks with lower-body injuries.

The Red Wings are in a tight race to grab one of the wild card spots in the Eastern Conference.

Detroit will finish up a three-game road trip against the Dallas Stars on Saturday before kicking off a four-game homestand against the Calgary Flames on Monday.
