PWHL San Jose signs Maddi Wheeler to two-year contract

PWHL San Jose announced Monday that they signed forward Maddi Wheeler to a two-year contract through the 2027-28 season.

The Erinsville, Ont., native scored three goals and added seven assists for 10 points in 29 games with the New York Sirens in her rookie campaign in 2025-26. She finished fifth in both assists and points.
She ranked fourth in the PWHL in hits with 51 and was just one of three forwards to recordf 50 hits in a single season.
In her first PWHL game, Wheeler recorded three assists, becoming the first player in league history to achieve the feat in their debut.
A 2025 fourth-round pick, she spent five seasons playing college hockey with Ohio State and Wisconsin. In five NCAA seasons, Wheeler had 40 goals and 63 assists for 103 points in 176 career games. She scored a career-high 12 goals in 2021-22 and a career-high 28 points in 2022-23.
Wheeler, 23, will join former Sirens teammates Anne Cherkowski and Kristin O’Neill in San Jose. Rory Guilday and Corinne Schroeder also signed deals with the California expansion team.
The signing completes the list of five players PWHL San Jose would add during Phase 2 of the league’s Expansion Roster Distribution Process.
Earlier in the day, PWHL Vegas signed Erin Ambrose and Hayley Scamurra to new deals. Vegas is also reportedly planning to sign Hilary Knight to a deal, then trade her to PWHL Detroit for a first-round pick.
In other PWHL news, PWHL Detroit signed Jesse Compher to a three-year deal, joining Daryl Watts, Hannah Bilka, Cayla Barnes and Britta Curl-Salemme.Â
