A talented blueliner has inked her first professional contract.

On Wednesday, the Seattle Torrent announced that the team has signed defender Sydney Morrow to a two-year contract, which will carry through the 2027-28 season.

Morrow was the Torrent’s second selection in the 2026 PWHL Draft, as she was taken in the second round, 14th overall.

Morrow joins the Torrent after a decorated collegiate career that saw the Darien, Conn. native earn plenty of travel miles. After starting her NCAA tenure at Ohio State University in 2023, she transferred to Colgate University ahead of her sophomore season. Morrow finally found a stable home in 2024, moving to the University of Minnesota, where she established herself as one of the best two-way defenders in college hockey.

After posting a career-high 39 points in her only season as a Raider, where she helped Colgate win the ECAC Regular Season and Tournament championships, Morrow posted back-to-back 30-point campaigns with the Golden Gophers, notching eight goals and 38 assists this past season.

In her final three years in the NCAA, the 22-year-old was named an AHCA second-team All-American twice, and was named All-WCHA Second Team in her junior season in Minneapolis. In 148 career games, Morrow scored 35 goals and 80 assists for 115 points.

While she has to crack the senior national team roster, Morrow was part of the U.S. development scene, taking home a silver medal from the 2022 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship.

Morrow joins second-overall pick Abbey Murphy as the lone two players from Seattle’s 2026 draft class to have signed contracts so far. The Torrent have 18 players under a standard player agreement, meaning they have one more spot available prior to training camp starting next month.

The Torrent begin their second season on Dec. 5, visiting the Vancouver Goldeneyes. Seattle starts the 2026-27 season on a three-game road trip before finally playing at home on Dec. 20 against Las Vegas.
