The St. Louis Blues announced that defenseman Philip Broberg sustained an upper-body injury during their game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday and would not return.

The injury occurred less than two minutes into the game when Broberg took a hit from Golden Knights’ forward Mark Stone in the Blues’ end. He stayed down on the ice and needed help to get to the locker room.

Minutes later, Stone fought Blues’ forward Brayden Schenn after the two captains yelled at one another between the benches.

Through 45 games this season, Broberg has two goals and 12 assists for 14 points, averaging 23:18 of ice time. Now in his fifth NHL season, Broberg has 12 goals and 44 assists for 56 points in 194 career regular-season games with the Blues and Edmonton Oilers

Earlier in the day, Broberg and the Blues signed a six-year extension that will pay him $8 million through the 2033-34 season.

Earlier this month, Broberg was named to Sweden’s men’s hockey roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. He represented Sweden in three World Junior Championships between 2019 and 2021, earning a bronze medal in 2020. He also won a gold medal with Sweden at the 2019 Under-18 World Championship.

Broberg joined the Blues after the team signed him, along with Dylan Holloway, to offer sheets as restricted free agents in August 2024

After going No. 8 overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Broberg spent parts of three seasons in the AHL with the Bakersfield Condors, where he recorded 11 goals and 54 assists for 65 points in 87 regular-season games.

Going into Saturday night, the Blues are 17-20-8 with 42 points through 45 games in 2025-26, seventh in the Central Division and five points out of a wild-card spot in the Western Conference
