A couple of players are set to head back to the minors.

On Wednesday, the Florida Panthers placed defenseman Tobias Bjornfot and goaltender Louis Domingue on waivers, making them available to the other 31 teams in the NHL.

If either or both players clear waivers on Thursday, they would be eligible to be assigned to the Panthers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.

Domingue goes on the wire hours after signing a one-year, two-way contract with the team for the remainder of the season. There’s speculation that the right-handed catching backstop has been put on the NHL team’s payroll as insurance in case the Panthers elect to trade starting goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.

The 33-year-old started the 2025-26 campaign in the Kontinental Hockey League with Sibir Novosibirsk, playing in 11 games before signing an AHL deal with the Checkers in late November. In Charlotte, Domingue has a record of 3-3-0 in seven games, posting a 3.20 goals-against average and a .831 save percentage.

Domingue hasn’t seen NHL ice since his lone start with the New York Rangers last January. In 144 career appearances, the Quebec native has a record of 61-60-10, with a 3.01 GAA, a .906 SV% and two shutouts. He’s also played seven playoff games, with a 3-3 record, a 3.45 GAA and a .902 SV%.

Bjornfot is also on a one-year, two-way contract with the Panthers. He was acquired by the team last March off waivers, but didn’t play in the postseason. This year, he has appeared in 11 games, scoring two goals and three points. He has also seen considerable time with Checkers, scoring a goal and six assists for seven points in 22 games.

The Swedish blueliner had just come back from injury, having suffered an injury against the Boston Bruins prior to the Olympic break, leading to him being placed on injured reserve. He was in the lineup in the Panthers’ 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night.

Bjornfot has appeared in 145 NHL games, potting three goals and 15 assists for 18 points.
