Carolina Hurricanes News

Pyotr Kotchetkov was in the starter's crease at Wednesday's morning skate.

Kochetkov will likely start his second consecutive game for the Hurricanes as the 24-year-old Russian netminder is reeling after a 22-save, 4-0 shutout victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. Before his strong performance on Saturday, Kochetkov had lost all three appearances (0-3-0), allowing 11 goals on 67 shots (.836 SV%). The Hurricanes will hope to keep things rolling for Kochetkov on Wednesday as they are -248 home favourites against a Philadelphia Flyers team on a two-game winning streak.

Shayne Gostisbehere will draw back into the Red Wings' lineup Saturday vs. Columbus.

After recording nine points (3G / 6A) in his first seven games as a Red Wing, Gostisbehere went invisible, recording zero points and a -8 plus/minute rating in his last six contests, leading to his eventual healthy scratch on Thursday. He will return to the lineup on Saturday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Cayden Primeau will start Thursday at Detroit.

Primeau will start for the second time this season, his first game action since October 24th, a 5-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils, where he allowed four goals on 33 shots (.879 SV%). The Canadiens have held three goalies for the majority of the season but have mostly opted for the duties of Samuel Montembault and Jake Allen. Primeau and the Canadiens are +153 road underdogs on Thursday against a Detroit Red Wings team that has lost five of their last seven (2-4-1).

Pyotr Kochetkov has been recalled from Syracuse (AHL).

With news that Frederik Andersen will be out indefinitely because of a blood clotting issue, the Hurricanes have recalled Kochetkov from the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL. Kochetkov recently had a great three-game stint in the AHL (3-0-0), posting a 1.63 GAA and .932 SV%, which starkly contrasts his poor 4.33 GAA and .836 SV% from an earlier three-game stint (0-3-0) with the Hurricanes. Antti Raanta will likely be the go-to option between the pipes while Andersen is away from the team. The Hurricanes also announced on Monday that veteran goalie Jaroslav Halak will be joining the team on a free-agent tryout.

Frederik Andersen had a blood clotting issue and is out indefinetly.

Andersen did not participate in practice on Monday due to what was originally described as an undisclosed medical issue. Don Waddell, Hurricanes President and GM, has since put out a statement noting that Andersen had a blood clotting issue that needed to be addressed. There is no timeline for his return. Anderson has a 2.87 GAA and .894 SV% in six games this season (4-1-0). Assuming he misses extended time, Antti Raanta will be the likely candidate to take on most of the Hurricanes' goaltending duties. The Hurricanes also announced on Monday that veteran goalie Jaroslav Halak will be joining the team on a free-agent tryout.

A concrete update has not been provided yet but Andersen did not participate in practice on Monday due to an undisclosed medical issue. Anderson has a 2.87 GAA and .894 SV% in six games this season (4-1-0). Mike Reilly will make his Panthers' debut Monday vs. Columbus.

After being a healthy scratch for the Panthers' first 10 games, Reilly will make his season debut on Monday against the Blue Jackets. The 30-year-old defenseman has 339 NHL games, tallying 98 points (12G / 86A) and 132 penalty minutes. Uvis Balinskis is expected to be a healthy scratch for the Panthers.

Will Carrier (illness) is expected to return Saturday vs. Colorado.

Carrier missed the Golden Knights' previous game due to illness but is expected to return Saturday vs. Colorado after taking part in the team's morning skate. The 28-year-old left-winger has two goals, 11 SOG, and two PIMs in eight games played in a complimentary role this season while averaging only 10:25 TOI.

Hall (shoulder) will return to the Blackhawks lineup on Saturday.

Hall missed the Blackhawks' previous three-games due to a shoulder injury and was originally touted as week-to-week but will surprisingly return Saturday vs. Florida. The 31-year-old left-winger has twice missed time due to his injured shoulder so far leading to him missing five total games this season but has two assists, seven SOG, two PIMs and a -1 plus/minus in five games played.

Taylor Hall
Taylor Hall (shoulder) returned to practice Friday but is still without a return date.

Hall's return date is still uncertain but his presence at practice on Friday is a very encouraging sign for a Blackhawks team that has been outscored 23-8 in their last five games (1-4-0). Hall had two points (0G / 2A) in five games before being placed on the injured reserve on October 23rd.
