Markstrom will start in Detroit on Thursday.

The Devils will turn back to Markstrom between the pipes after Jake Allen got the nod against the Lightning on Tuesday. Markstrom struggled his last time out, surrendering six goals on 37 shots as New Jersey fell to the Capitals in overtime. The 35-year-old netminder owns a 3-2-1 record on the season to go along with a .902 SV% and a 2.99 GAA. The Devils are big road favourites in Detroit on Thursday, entering action at -180 on the money line.

Barkov (lower-body) is out on Thursday but has a possibility to return on the weekend.

Barkov has missed the last six games due to a lower-body injury and will miss at least one more before a potential return to the lineup. The defending Stanley Cup Champions are off to a reasonable start to the 2024-25 season, posting a 4-3-1 record, but will be overjoyed to have their captain back in the lineup. Last season, Barkov had 80 points (23G / 57A) in 73 games.

Tkachuk (illness) will return on Tuesday vs. Minnesota.

Tkachuk has not played since the second game of the season on October 10th, missing five contests, but is on schedule for his targeted return date of October 22nd. Over the past three seasons, Tkachuk has been among the league leaders in the NHL, averaging 1.25 points per game. He has two points (0G / 2A) and seven shots on goal in two games this season and will reclaim his spot on the Panthers' top line and top powerplay unit.

The Stars have loaned Alex Petrovic to Texas (AHL).

Petrovic was called up last week after Matt Dumba (lower-body) was injured. Given that Dumba is only about a week into his week-to-week injury prognosis, Petrovic's demotion to the Texas Stars (AHL) is likely just a paper transaction. The 32-year-old Petrovic spent the majority of 2023-24 with the Texas Stars (AHL) and had five goals and 22 points in 70 games played.

The Senators have recalled Cole Reinhardt from Belleville (AHL).

Reinhardt will replace Mads Sogaard on the Senators' roster for their road trip next week. The 24-year-old only has one career NHL game under his belt, but could get into the lineup next week after a strong start in the AHL--two goals and three assists in three games.

The Devils enter the action on Thursday as -132 road favorites against a Senators club that scored eight goals in their previous game, a whirlwind 8-7 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Kings.

Petrovic has been recalled from Texas (AHL).

Petrovic has only played one regular season NHL game in the last five years but had an impact in seven playoff games with Dallas this past postseason. His call-up to Dallas could coincide with the injury of Matt Dumba (lower body). Dumba did not play on Sunday and was replaced in the lineup by Brendan Smith.

Tkachuk (illness) is out on Monday and is expected to miss a week.

The Panthers' head coach Paul Maurice reported that Tkachuk is battling an illness and targeting a return on October 22nd against the Minnesota Wild. Over the past three seasons, Tkachuk has been among the league leaders in the NHL, averaging 1.25 points per game. Florida's top line is nearly completely decimated for the time being as they are also without Aleksander Barkov (lower-body). Sam Bennett and Evan Rodrigues will likely be the beneficiaries on the top line and top powerplay unit in the interim.

The Devils will turn to Markstrom in the crease for the back end of the back-to-back on Tuesday evening against the Carolina Hurricanes. The 34-year-old Markstrom has flaunted mixed results early in his tenure with the Devils but has averaged a respectable 2.71 GAA and .906 SV% through three games (2-1-0). Since the 2020-21 season, Markstrom's first as a Calgary Flame, the veteran netminder has finished the season with a save percentage greater than .905 only once.
