New York Islanders News

Schneider will start again on Saturday.

Schneider stopped 19 of 20 shots in a 2-1 OT win over the Oilers tonight. He will start the second half of the back-to-back tomorrow in Washington. It will mark his fifth consecutive start as he continues to be one of fantasy's best backstops. He has clearly supplanted Marty Brodeur as number-1 in New Jersey, continue to roll him out there with confidence.

Schneider gets the nod for the Devils on Friday.

Schndeider gave up two tallies on 25 shots in a 2-1 OT loss to the Avalanche on Monday. That marks 13 straight games where Schneider has held his opponent to three goals or less. He comes into play tonight having won five of his last 10 starts while positing a 1.51 GAA and .943 SV%. He is as consistent as you will find in fantasy hockey right now, get him in your lineup vs. the Oilers.

Varlamov gets the call in goal for Colorado.

Varlamov allowed five goals on 43 shots in a 5-1 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday. This loss was more on the rest of the Avs and less on Varlamov. They were badly outplayed all night and Varly was hung-out to dry. They will look to bounce back tonight in Philadelphia. Varlamov stopped 29 of 30 shots in a 2-1 win the first time he faced the Flyers on January 2.

Varlamov vs. Lundqvist.

Varlamov stopped 27 of 28 shots in a win over the Sabres on Saturday. He could have allowed six on 15 shots and still walked away victorious in this one. The Avalanche dominated the Sabres from puck-drop and Varly cruised to his 28th W of the season. Tonight he will face a surging Rangers squad led by Olympians Henrik Lundqvist and Rick Nash.

Varlamov leads the Avalanche onto the ice for warmups; he starts.

Varlamov allowed four goals on 35 shots in a 5-4 win over the Wild on Thursday. Varly has won 10 of his last 12 starts while posting a 2.69 GAA and .919 SV%. Varlamov got a fat contract extension on Thursday and he has earned it. Varlamov is 27-9-5 with a 2.47 GAA and .924 SV% this season. He is a must-start vs. the Sabres.

Schneider gets the start vs. the Predators.

Schneider stopped 14 of 16 shots in a OT win over the Stars last night. He will make both starts of the back-to-back as he faces Nashville tonight. He has yet to allow more than two goals in 11 straight games and now has a 10-10-7 record with a 1.87 GAA and .926 SV% on the season.

Cory Schneider
The Avalanche have signed Semyon Varlamov to a five-year contract extension worth $29.5 million (AAV of $5.9 M a year).

Varlamov has posted a 26-9-5 record with a 2.43 GAA, .925 SV% and one shutout in 42 games (39 starts) this season. Varlamov has already tied his career high with 26 wins, equaling his total from his first season with Colorado (2011-12). Varly is tied for third among NHL goaltenders in wins, ranks second in saves (1,199), third in shots faced (1,296), sixth in games (42-tied) and eighth in SV% (.925).

Semyon Varlamov
Avs will go with same lineup as Monday; Varlamov starts.

Varalmov turned aside 41 of 44 shots in a 4-3 win over the Stars. He has now alternated wins and losses in his last five starts, so hopefully for Varly owners that trend downs continue. Varlamov will make his 40th start this season, he is 26-9-5 with a 2.43 GAA and .925 SV% thus far. A win tonight would set a new career-high in wins for the Russian netminder.

Schneider gets the nod for the Devils.

Schneider stopped 22 of 24 shots on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough as the Devils were downed 3-0 by the Blues. Schneider's lack of goal support comes as no surprise, he has had minimal help all season. He will take on a Stars team who have won three of their last four and are tied for eighth in NHL scoring (2.85 G/PG).

Schneider starts for the Devils.

Schneider stopped four of five shots after replacing Martin Brodeur on Sunday. Brodeur's play has slipped recently, while Schneider has been one of the most steady goalies all season. Look for him to see the vast majority of starts going forward. Tonight he draws a tough matchup in St. Louis, but he has been able to keep goals to a minimum all season, so you shouldn't worry too much.

Varlamov starts vs. the Stars.

Varlamov gave up two goals on 11 shots after replacing Sami Aittokallio in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Lightning. Varlamov enters play at 8-1-1 with a 2.52 GAA and .921 SV% in January. He will meet the Stars for the fourth time this season, he is 3-0-0 with a 1.97 GAA and .942 SV% against Dallas.

Semyon Varlamov
Varlamov will be in goal vs. Florida.

Varlamov was yanked after allowing three goals on 10 shots in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Maple Leafs. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Russian Olympian. He draws a solid matchup tonight vs. the Panthers 28th ranked offence, however they pushed four passed him on 33 shots in a 4-1 defeat in November.

Semyon Varlamov
Schneider confirms he starts on Friday.

Schneider allowed one goal on 27 shots in a 7-1 blowout win vs. the Blues on Tuesday. Schneider has been excellent over the last month, he is 4-1-2 with a ridiculous 1.11 GAA and .960 SV%. Despite the Devils subpar offence, Schneider is a top-tier fantasy option. On Friday he faces a Caps team who have only seven goals in their last six games.
