Lindgren will start in Buffalo on Thursday.

Coming off a disappointing 4-1 loss last night to the Philadelphia Flyers, Washington's fourth loss in their last five games (1-4-0), they will hope to reverse their fortunes by turning to Lindgren for just his second start since the Olympic break. That said, the 32-year-old Lindgren's play hasn't been encouraging either, losing four of his last five starts (1-3-1) while posting a dreadful 4.16 GAA and .859 SV%. Washington enters Thursday's contest as +184 road underdogs against one of the NHL's hottest teams, the Buffalo Sabres.

Chisholm will be a healthy scratch vs. Philadelphia on Wednesday.

With Timothy Liljegren drawing into Washington's lineup for his team debut on Wednesday against the Philadelphia Flyers, Chisholm will be sent to the press box as a healthy scratch. The 26-year-old Chisholm is averaging 13:44 time-on-ice and has seven points (1G / 6A) in 26 games this season.

Liljegren will make his Capitals' debut on Wednesday vs. Philadelphia.

Washington acquired Timothy Liljegren from San Jose for a 2026 4th round pick before the trade deadline and will make his Capitals debut on Wednesday against the Philadelphia Flyers. Liljegren was acquired mid-season by the San Jose Sharks in 2024-25, but his stay was short lived after being dealt to the Washington ahead of the 2025-26 deadline. The 26-year-old defenseman averaged 20:08 time-on-ice and scored 11 points (1G / 10A) in 43 games with San Jose this season.

Thompson will start in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Thompson has played exceptionally since returning from the Olympic break, but a lack of offence from Washington has limited him to a 2-3-0 record, despite posting a solid 2.23 GAA and .914 SV% in five outings. The 29-year-old Thompson will return to the crease on Wednesday against a Philadelphia Flyers team that he was nearly perfect against less than three weeks ago, saving 24 of 25 shots (.958 SV%) in a 3-1 victory. The Capitals enter Wednesday's action as -127 road favourites against the Flyers.

Logan Thompson
Thompson will start vs. Calgary on Monday.

Thompson was solid in his most recent outing, saving 27 of 29 shots (.931 SV%), but did not receive enough goal support, losing 3-1 to the Boston Bruins. The 29-year-old Thompson has been terrific since returning from the Olympic break, but only has a 2-2-0 record to show for it, despite posting an impressive 2.04 GAA and .922 SV% in four games. The Capitals enter Monday's contest as -196 home favourites against a Calgary Flames team that has lost five straight games (0-4-1).

Washington has acquired David Kampf from Vancouver for a 6th round draft pick.

Kampf had his contract terminated by the Toronto Maple Leafs earlier this season and pleased reasonably well in a bottom-six role after joining the Vancouver Canucks. The 31-year-old Czech forward is averaging 15:02 time-on-ice and has six points (2G / 4A) in 38 games this season.

Washington has acquired Jesper Vikman, a 2027 3rd round pick and a 2029 2nd round pick from Vegas for Nic Dowd.

Vikman was drafted in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights, but has yet to make his NHL debut. The 23-year-old Swedish goalie had a 3.41 GAA and .866 SV% in 18 games (8-7-3) this season with the Henderson Silver Knights (AHL).

Jesper Vikman
Washington has signed Ethan Frank to a two-year, $2 million AAV contract extension ($4 million total).

Frank has been impressive in his first full season at the NHL level and has earned himself a two-year contract extension with the Capitals. The 28-year-old forward is averaging 12:44 time-on-ice and has 23 points (11G / 12A) in 52 games this season.

Thompson will start vs. Utah on Tuesday.

Thompson has been doing his part to help the Capitals get back into the playoff picture and will likely return to the crease on Tuesday against the Utah Mammoth. The 29-year-old Thompson was solid in his most recent outing, saving 24 of 26 shots (.923 SV%) in a 3-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights, helping him improve to 4-1-0 with a 2.21 GAA and .920 SV% in his last five games. The Capitals enter Tuesday's contest as -119 home favourites against a Mammoth team coming off a disappointing 4-0 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.
