The Blackhawks signed Mike Paliotta to a two-year contract on Thursday.

Paliotta, 21, was a third-round pick of the Blackhawks (70th overall) in 2011. The 6-foot-3, 201 lbs. defenseman had 36 points (9G / 27A) in 41 games at the University of Vermont this season. He really added a new-level of offence to his game this season and is expected to report to the Blackhawks.

The Blackhawks signed Kyle Baun to a two-year contract on Thursday.

Baun, 22, had 14 goals and 15 assists (29 points) in 38 games at Colgate University this season. In three years at Colgate the 6-foot-2, 204 lbs. forward amassed 39 goals and 40 assists (79 points) in 113 games. He is expected to report to the Blackhawks, but is not eligible for the playoffs.

Mrazek will start on Saturday vs. Tampa Bay.

Mrazek allowed two goals on 19 shots after replacing Jimmy Howard in the Red Wings 6-4 loss to San Jose on Thursday. Since being recalled, Mrazek has gone 1-2-0 with a 2.29 GAA and .936 SV%. Today he faces a Lightning team who the Red Wings are 0-2-1 against while being outscored 11-5 this season.

Girardi suffered a “gash” on his arm after being hit by a shot on Thursday.

Girardi’s cut required stitches after the game, but it is not believed to be overly serious and he should be in the lineup on Saturday in Boston.

The Stars have activated Nichushkin (hip) from IR and sent him to Texas (AHL) for a conditioning stint.

Ninchushkin, who has only appeared in four games with the Stars this season, is finally ready to get into game action after undergoing hip surgery back in November. He will play three games in Texas before returning to Dallas for the final five games of the regular season.

The Capitals have sent Dmitry Orlov (wrist) to Hershey (AHL) for a conditioning stint.

Orlov has not played yet this season because of a wrist injury. He will head to Hershey to get back into game-shape before he returns to the Capitals. He is allowed to stay with Hershey for a maximum of two weeks.

The Maple Leafs have recalled T.J Brennan from Toronto (AHL) on an emergency basis.

Brennan had no points and a minus-5 rating in a brief stint with the Maple Leafs two weeks ago. Since heading back to the Marlies, he registered no points and a minus-2 rating, but he is back-up and is expected to play on Saturday.

Berra wound up getting the nod in goal on Thursday.

Despite announcing that Semyon Varlamov would start both games of the Wednesday-Thursday back-to-back, when Varlamov was pulled on Wednesday it obviously prompted coach Patrick Roy to turn to Berra, who has seem extremely limited playing time this season. Berra stopped 33 of 34 shots in a 4-1 win. Apologies for the Varlamov confirm.

Crawford starts Friday vs. the Blue Jackets.

Crawford surrendered four goals on 33 shots in the Blackhawks loss in Philadelphia on Wednesday. It wasn’t Crawford’s best outing, but overall March has been one of his best months of the season—through nine starts he is 6-2-1 with a 1.88 GAA and .945 SV%. Tonight Crawford takes on a Columbus team who have won seven of their last eight.

Bobrovsky gets the nod on Friday in Chicago.

Bobrovsky allowed three goals on 40 shots in the Blue Jackets win over the Ducks on Tuesday. Goalie Bob has won three straight games while posting a 2.28 GAA and .942 SV%. Tonight he will face a Blackhawks team who is 8-3-1 despite averaging only 2.17 goals per game in 12 contests since Patrick Kane got hurt.

Ramo starts on Friday in Minnesota.

Ramo allowed three goals on 30 shots in the Flames shootout loss to the Stars on Wednesday. He will make his fifth straight start tonight having gone 2-0-2 with a 2.17 GAA and .918 SV% in his last four outings. He will be in tough tonight against a Wild team who have won five of their last six games.

Rinne leads the Predators onto the ice for warmups.

Rinne surrendered two goals on 29 shots in the Predators 3-2 win over the Canadiens on Tuesday. After losing two in a row, Rinne has shut the door on 51 of 53 shots (.962 SV%) to earn back-to-back victories. Tonight he faces a Lightning team who have won four in a row. He made 30 saves in a 3-2 OT win in their first meeting back in February.

As expected, Quick leads the Kings onto the ice for warmups.

Quick surrendered two goals on 36 shots in the Kings 4-2 win over the Rangers on Tuesday. Quick has won two in a row while stopping 53 of 56 shots (.946 SV%). Tonight he will take on a struggling Islanders team who have lost five of their last six outings.

Rask was pulled after allowing four goals on 12 shots in the Bruins loss to the Lightning on Sunday. Rask is on a personal four-game losing skid while posting a 3.44 GAA and .887 SV% over that span. Tonight he takes on a Ducks team who have lost their last two games while allowing a combined 12 goals.

Lack gets the call on Thursday vs. Colorado.

Lack turned aside 26 of 28 shots in the Canucks win over the Jets on Tuesday. He has won four of his last five while recording a 2.07 GAA and .929 SV%. He has been great with Ryan Miller out and tonight he will be looking for revenge against the Avs. Back in October he faced 48 shots, allowing seven goals in a 7-3 loss to Colorado.
