NHL Hockey Player News

The Bruins have assigned Craig Cunningham to Providence (AHL).

Cunningham failed to record a point while averaging 11:26 TOI in the first three games. The Bruins are trying to find the right combination of centres to turn up the offence without David Krejci. Seth Griffith has been recalled.

Craig Cunningham
Kuemper posts back-to-back shutouts to start the season.

After blanking the Avalanche in the first game of the season on Thursday, the WIld went back to Kuemper in the second game of the home-and-home and he stopped all 30 shots that he faced for a second straight shutout vs. Colorado. The Wild's goaltending situation seemed to be a mess entering the season, but this is a superb start for Kuemper. Not to mention he also had eight goals of goal support in two games.

Darcy Kuemper
Staal (upper-body) left Saturday's game and did not return.

Staal left the game after being hit hard. Original reports suggest that Staal may be suffering from concussion-like symptoms. The Hurricanes are extremely banged up already so if Staal misses any time, they are in huge trouble. He joins his brother Jordan and winger Jeff Skinner on the injury report. Expect an update on Staal on Sunday or Monday.

Eric Staal
Kane (leg) will miss two weeks.

The Jets originally announced that he will miss at least two games, but now they will reevaluate him in two weeks and see where he is at. Head coach Paul Maurice felt like this was good news considering how serious they thought the injury originally was. Expect Dustin Byfuglien to continue to play a bigger role in Kane's absence.

Evander Kane
Reimer is expected to make his season debut on Sunday.

Reimer had a rough year in 2013-14, he went 12-16-1 with a 3.29 GAA and .911 SV% and took a clear backseat to Jonathan Bernier. Tonight, he will look to get the Maple Leafs into the win column. Bernier has allowed nine goals on 64 shots (.877 SV%) so a good start from Reimer could earn him some more playing time early in the season.

James Reimer
Luongo leads the Panthers onto the ice for warmups.

Luongo allowed three goals on 32 shots in a 3-2 OT loss to the Lightning on Thursday. The Panthers were in penalty trouble all night and the Lightning only scored on the power-play in regulation. Expect them to be more disciplined tonight against a Devils team who surpirsingly scored six goals in their opener.

Roberto Luongo
Smith is expected to start in goal for the Coyotes on Saturday.

Smith allowed six goals on 27 shots in a 6-2 loss to the Jets on opening night. It was not a great start for Smith and it will not be easy for him to get back on track tonight against a Sharks team coming off of a huge opening night win over the Kings.

Mike Smith
Lindback will start in goal for Dallas.

Lindback had a disappointing season with Nashville last season. Despite Pekka Rinne missing the majority of the year, Lindback was only able to amass eight wins while posting a 2.90 GAA and .891 SV%. He will face his former team tonight and the Predators are coming off of 3-2 win over the Senators.

Anders Lindback
Stalock gets the start for the Sharks.

Despite Antti Niemi posting a shutout in the Sharks season opener, Stalock will get the call in goal tonight vs. Winnipeg. Stalock had a 12-5-2 record with a 1.87 GAA and .932 SV% last season and will battle with Niemi all season for the starting job.

Alex Stalock
Enroth in goal for the Sabres.

Enroth allowed three goals on 40 shots in the Sabres loss to the Blue Jackets on Thursday. Buffalo was dominated throughout the night, which will likely be a trend Enorth owners will have to get used to. Keep him on the bench tonight when he takes on the Blackhawks.

Jhonas Enroth
Holtby will start for the Capitals.

Holtby stopped 23 of 24 shots in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Canadiens on opening night. It was a nice start for Holtby, but the Capitals had a tough time beating Dustin Tokarski. Holtby will be back in goal tonight, but draws a tough matchup in Boston.
