The Blackhawks have placed Patrick Sharp on long-term IR.

Sharp is still expected to start skating today or tomorrow and going on LTIR should not alter his timeline. Sharp is still expected to be back in 7-14 days. The move is simply a salary cap move.

Patrick Sharp
Fleury starts Thursday vs. the Islanders.

Fleury stopped all 27 shots that he faced in the 4-0 shutout win over the Habs on Tuesday. It was Fleury’s 11th win and fourth shutout of the year. He has been spectacular through 14 starts and comes in tonight at 5-1-0 with a 1.78 GAA and .935 SV% in the month of November. He will go for career win 300.

Marc-Andre Fleury
Greiss will start on Saturday.

Greiss allowed a single goal on 31 shots in 2-1 win over the Maple Leafs on November 14th. After losing in his Penguins debut, Greiss has won each of his last two starts while allowing just two goals on 65 shots (.969 SV%). He will try to backstop Pittsburgh to a bounce-back performance after falling to the Isles in OT last night.

Thomas Greiss
Klingberg scored his first NHL goal on Thursday.

Klingberg now has one goal and three assists in the first six games of his NHL career. He is playing nearly 24 minutes a night, including an average 1:37 on the power-play. He is a dynamic offensive defenseman, which allowed the Stars to trade Sergei Gonchar. He is worth a speculative add in standard leagues.

John Klingberg
Connauton will make his Blue Jackets debut on Friday.

The Blue Jackets claimed Connauton off of waivers from Dallas on Tuesday and will be inserted in the lineup tonight vs. the Bruins. Tim Erixon will come out of the lineup to make room for the newest Blue Jacket. Connauton had two assists in eight games with Dallas this season.

Kevin Connauton
Fleury was the first goalie off at the Penguins morning skate.

Marc-Andre Fleury
Lupul (hand) not expected to play on Saturday vs. Detroit.

Lupul continued to skate in a no-contact jersey on Friday morning, which suggests that he will not be available on Saturday. Lupul has missed the last 11 games with a broken hand he suffered on October 28th. Monitor his status during Saturday’s game day skate.

Joffrey Lupul
Bobrovsky starts for the Blue Jackets.

Bobrovsky surrendered five goals on 40 shots in the Blue Jackets 5-0 loss to the Red Wings on Tuesday. Detroit dominated Columbus for most of the night and Bob did not look nearly as good as he did in his return on Saturday. He draws a tough match ups vs. a Bruins team who appear to be back on track.

The Maple Leafs have assigned David Booth (foot) to the Toronto Marlies (AHL) on a conditioning assignment.

Booth returned to practice at the start of the week as he works his way back from a broken foot that he suffered in the preseason. He was originally expected to be out 4-6 weeks, but today marks the 10 1/2 week mark. He is expected to play with the Marlies tonight and likely Sunday, before returning to the Maple Leafs next week.

David Booth
The Stars have signed Spezza to a four-year contract extension worth $30 million ($7.5 AAV).

Spezza was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He was acquired from Ottawa in July and has recorded four goals and 14 assists (18 points) in 20 games this season. He was making an average annual salary of seven million during his current seven-year deal, so his new deal represents a $500K raise each season.

Jason Spezza
Martinez (finger) could miss more than one week.

Martinez skated for the second straight day on Thursday, but it sounds like he will be out longer than his original timetable of one week. He underwent a procedure that included some work done on his nailbed and head coach Darryl Sutter said “They nearly cut his finger off. I don’t think I could play in a week.” Sutter is worried the finger could become infected and doesn’t want Martinez to miss even more time. He remains day-to-day, but it sounds like he’ll be out longer than original expected.

Alec Martinez
Schneider starts on Friday vs. Edmonton.

Schneider allowed three goals on 34 shots in the Devils 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Jets on Tuesday. Schneider enters play tonight at 8-8-2 at the quarter mark of the season. Tonight he is in Edmonton; he has gone 5-5-0 with 3.25 GAA and .898 SV% in 11 starts on the road.

Cory Schneider
Quick leads the Kings onto the ice for warmups.

Quick stopped 30 of 32 shots in the Kings 5-2 win over the Panthers on Tuesday. That is back-to-back strong outings for Quick, who lowered his GAA to 2.06 on the season. Tonight, he will get another crack at a Carolina team who pushed three past him in a 3-2 loss in early November.

Jonathan Quick
Berra leads the Avalanche onto the ice for warmups.

Berra allowed four goals on 27 shots in a loss to the Flyers on November 8th. He was awarded back-to-back starts, but it did not turn out so well for the Avs, but he will be back between the pipes tonight vs. Washington. The Capitals tied for 9th in scoring (2.83 G/PG) so there should be better spot-start options out there on this busy Thursday.

Reto Berra
Lehtonen leads the Stars onto the ice for warmups.

Lehtonen was pulled after he allowed four goals on 16 shots in a 6-4 loss to the Hurricanes on Tuesday. He has allowed 12 goals on 85 shots (.859 SV%) in his last three starts (all losses). His recent struggles make him a risky start, even at home vs. the Coyotes.

Kari Lehtonen
Smith leads the Coyotes on to the ice for warmups.

Smith allowed two goals on 24 shots in the Coyotes’ OT loss to Washington on Tuesday. Smith has dropped four in a row while allowed 12 goals on 114 shots (.895 SV%). Tonight, it looks like he will start vs. on of his former teams. The Stars are really struggling right now, but there are better options than Smith on a busy Thursday.
