While Tippett gave that vague update, it seems like Curtis McElhinney was recalled to get some action. Sounds like Smith will at least miss another week. Prior to getting hurt, the Kingston, Ontario started 28 of 34 games.

With Ryan Shannon out, the Bolts opt to use the veteran AHLer over a seventh defenseman. He had six goals and 12 points with the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL and is highly unlikely to have any fantasy hockey value.
They have placed Paul Martin on IR retroactively
Martin last played on December 16th and is eligible to come off IR at any time. The Minneapolis, Minnesota native has a goal and 10 points in 32 games. His last 82-game campaign came during the 2006-2007 season.

With Michalek's activation, the defenseman could be used against the Jets. The two-way defender last played on November 26th and has only played in 14 of 34 games.

In the 2023-24 season, there were a total of 14 suspensions and 17 fines issued throughout the NHL. The longest suspension served was dealt to former-Detroit Red Wing David Perron at six-games after a cross-checking penalty dealt ironically against his current team in the 2024-25 season, the Ottawa Senators. Additionally, Perron was fined $148,437.48 for his actions.
