Dowling cleared waivers on Wednesday and has been loaned to Utica (AHL).

With Curtis Lazar (knee) and Tomas Tatar (undisclosed) returning to the Devils' lineup on Tuesday, Justin Dowling placed on waivers the following day. The 34-year-old Dowling played 21 games this season, scoring three points (2G / 1A) and averaging 8:30 time-on-ice.

The 25-year-old Vaakanainen was the 18th overall pick of the Boston Bruins in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He played a career-high 68 games with the Ducks last season, tallying 14 points (1G / 13A). Connor Mackey will be a healthy scratch for the Rangers.

Shesterkin has struggled lately, a byproduct of poor team play from the Rangers, but he will return to the crease on Tuesday against the Nashville Predators.
